JK's website said that Hermione's middle name was Jane. DH said it's Jean. I DEMAND AN EXPLANATION.

From hp-lexicon.org:
"Birth name: Hermione Jean Granger. In 2004, Jo told us her middle name was 'Jane' (WBD); however Rowling changed it to 'Jean" in Book 7, possibly so that Hermione and Umbridge wouldn't share the same middle name. 'Jean' is also one of the middle names of Rowling's daughter Mackenzie."

I dislike the name "Jean" but it has a nice ring when connected with Hermione. Her-my-oh-nee Jeen vs. Her-my-oh-nee Jayn.

Hermione Jean definitely sounds better than Hermione Jane. I don't like either name really, though, ever.

I would probably prefer Jane to Jean as a name by itself, but i think it sounds wierd when you've got the 'ay' sound in Hermione's middle and last name...
i agree that 'Hermione Jean Granger' flows so much better..

It's the Jane Grang part that sounds bad, I think. Hermione Jean is really pretty, though.

I do prefer Jean. It does sound much better. And of course associating Hermione with umbridge is unacceptable.

Did you notice that "Hermione Jean Granger" has all the vowel sounds in it? Very harmonious. And the one-syllable middle name creates a nice flow.

It does flow rather nicely.

I heard that she changed Hermione's middle name to Jean because her youngest daughter's name is Mackenzie Jean Rowling. Perhaps she decided to rename Hermione after her own daughter?

Why not? It's her book. She probably also realized that Jean sounds better.
