that's a good question...
the UK cover is obviously the gringotts scene btu i have no clue as to what the other cover is about..
Harry seems to still have the locket around his neck though, so it would be from a bit earlier on..

You miss the point completely. Firstly the thing Harry has around his neck is NOT the locked but actually is the pouch Hagrid gave him. The scene is actually the final battle at Hogwarts between Harry and Voldemort. Although not visible on this, if you open the book flat you can see there is Voldemort falling back. Harry is reaching out for the Elder wand which he has just disarmed from Voldemort. I agree that it does look slightly confusing, almost like its at the coliseum but infact it is the broken and destroyed building of Hogwarts.

Here is the full cover. (Sorry for stretching the page.) If it's the final battle, where is Harry's (well, Malfoy's) wand?

I think it's definitely the final battle. Look at the sky.

I'm pretty sure both wands flew up into the air, that's why you don't see Harry's (Malfoy's) wand.

Yes the sky does match the description of the sunset. But I don't remember the Great Hall being destroyed and that was where the fight took place...

It's the scene were Molly calls Bellatrix a magee, the coolest part of the book.

Maybe JKR was making a political statement in showing how greenhouse gases are affecting the sky.
Probably not though.

Nah, she doesn't seem like the environmentalist type. How many tree do think were used to print all of the books?

Ew, I really do not like the UK cover. Hermione looks like a freak.
