I am making this thread beacause exactly one year ago my cat had a hairball removed from his stomach. This thread is in memory of that event. This is what happened:
On August 18, 2003 my cat, Lucky, started coughing and hacking like he had a hairball. But still, 4 days later it hadn't come out. He kept hacking and making choking noises and my whole family thought he was going to soffocate so we decided to take him to the vet. The vet examined him and said that she would have to cut into his stomach and manually remove the hair ball that had gotten cought on my cats stomach lineing. The operation took place that night. I wasn't allowed to watch it in person for sanitary reasons but I asked the vet all about it. She said first she gave my cat a shot of stuff that would put him to sleep. Then she took a small scaple and made a cut into his stomach. They used this small stick with hot metal at the end to burn the blood cells so that it wasn't bloody. She then used a tweezers-type tool and dug around in his stomach until she found the hair ball. She tugged it out and set it on the aside. After that she sewed up my cats stomach and and waited for the sleeping shot to wear off. While he was still asleep she shot a painkiller liquid into him so he wouldn't hurt a whole ton when he woke up. And the next day when I got my kitty back I asked if I could see the hairball and the vet actually let me!! It was black and these weird little orange dots in it. I'm still not sure what they were and didn't think to ask the vet. The hairball was so cool looking that I asked if I could take it home. And the vet said yes!!! I was sooo happy! I kept that hair ball for over 4 months. It was so soft and fun to play with! It would make your hands feel a bit greasy after you touched it but I didn't mind. After about 4 months my mom said that the hairball was stinking up my entire room and so I had to get rid of it. So, I sadly disposed of it. My cat has this little scar on his stomach that is like a bumpy line and sometimes I feel it when I pet him and It reminds me of that hairball. I wish I had taken a picture of it to show you but I didn't have a digital camera back then and my mom got mad at me for wasting pictures with a normal camera. But I do have a picture of my cat and I will show it to you. This is my cat: Lucky, who had surgery to remove a hairball exactly one year ago.
