Randomletters Sebald, care to share your evedince?
I voted "It will happen in the future", because I've vaguely entertained the notion that these books take place in a post-apocalyptic world, where technology has been lost.

Clearly 500 or so AD. The sinister duo are Merlin and Morgan Le Fay, Arthur is King of Arizona, Lemony Snicket is the Green Knight...it all fits perfectly...avaunt, and feutre thy arms, rogue, for I would have ado with thee!

If we could vote multiple times, I would vote for the 1911 one and then the 1951.

Certainly. It's a question that can't be answered, and the time periods you've offered are quite laughably specific. And since you yourself want it locked, who am I to disagree?
Locked.
