Here's an interesting reference page on the legend of Orion: www.online-mythology.com/orionAt the start of the article: Orion was the son of Neptune. He was a handsome giant and a mighty hunter. His father gave him the power of wading through the depths of the sea...Does thie foreshadow the Baudelaires in their diving suits hunting for the sugar bowl? Or is it just a coincidence? I think Handler just 'rhymed' (if you call the words 'Orion' & 'Observatory' rhyming) or joined them together thematically like Lake Lachrymose, or Caligari Carnival, or Grim Grotto, or Stricken Stream. Orian is a constellation, thus implying what kind of Observatory the Orion Observatory is.

Hmm, I think you've touched upon something interesting. Submarine's have famous authors on their suits and have their submarines named after characters....perhaps observatiories are named after constellations... Maybe this "naming things after other famous things" is a VFD thing. We should keep an eye out for it. This reminds me of the Lucky Smells Lumbemill, and the Opportune Odours Horseradish factory. VFD seems to have themes on what their "bases" are called.

Mentions of the Orion Observatory. Sorry is this has been discussed. 1. Pg. 28 Duchess R mentions being at the Orion Observatory and seeing someone break into a jeep. 2. Pg. 30 Lemony confirms the jeep is black and in the NW corner. How does he know? 3. TWW Editors Note. You will recieve ...... from a black jeep in the North West corner of the Orion Observatory. In conclusion it is possible that the person R saw breaking into the jeep is in fact Lemony's editor. Or R is in fact Lemony's Editor and her note is to say how she recieved the files. Another mention is at the end of S.S, when it says as Quigley was floating down the stream, he had hold of something that looked like a banister, as one might need to walk up an observitory staircase or something along those lines.

I think that that just meant that there was an astromonical observatory in the Valley of Four Drafts headquarters.
Edit: But it was smart of you to notice that.
