Hey, I'm new - I'm not sure if this was mentioned before, I'm sorry if it was. I'm just confused about something - in CC the Bauds go into Lulu's tent and Violet wants her hair ribbon so she could think better, and finds it in Olaf's pants (no comment). She said that he must have kept it after prepping her for surgery, but didn't she use it to make that "key ring" for Hal? I don't remember them getting it back, and Hal had brought it with him to the operating theatre.... I'm just wondering if I missed something here.

She found it in a plot hole.

No, really, that's it. It's the same reason why Violet was in her proper dress again rather than her theater gown in TSS.

Maybe Violet has a spare ribbon.

She found it in a plot hole. *ba-dum tish* No, really, that's it. It's the same reason why Violet was in her proper dress again rather than her theater gown in TSS. I sort of guessed that she found her dress in Olaf's trunk, but didn't put it back on until she was in the mountains. And I assumed that she carries a spare ribbon. While we're on the topic of costume inconsistencies, in the last picture of TGG Violet is wearing her dress instead of the Herman Melville suit.

The colour of Klaus's bow tie and Sunny and Violet's ribbons changes between books, even between the books when they would not have had the opportunity to obtain or change into spares.

Yea - I noticed a few weird clothing changes but I thought the ribbon thing had the most missing - it would make sense that she carried a spare, but in the library of records she went to get a ribbon out of her pocket and there wasn't one there - because of the keychain. It's not a big deal - probably just a plot hole.

Didn't Sunny tear her a mock ribbon out of a Doctor's coat when she was waking up from the anesthesia?

Hmmm. Just remember, they only have the different clothes in Brett Helquist's pictures. He just creates the pictures for a better image of the bauds, not as actual information. I mean, like, as if there really was a snake slithering around in the last picture of TBB. It would be incredibly coincidental that the clue-pictures actually happened.

"And as the Baudelaire's waved out the back of Mr. Poe's car to Justice Strauss, a long black - but perfectly harmless - snake slithered around the lamp-post. 'Why is there a snake there?' Klaus asked. 'Who knows, Klaus, who knows...' Violet said, wiping a tear from her eye."

Incorrect: TSS, p7 ...In moments, the two Baudelaires wriggled out of the oversized clothing they had taken from Count Olaf's disguise kit, and were standing in their regular clothes. It's not just the illustrations.

True, but I still consider it Brett Helquists fault. His drawings do not, I believe, in any way affect the series, with the exception of the clue in the last picture.

i agree. i think that DH just tells him what to draw, or he just does something he finds interesting and should be drawn out.

Violet found her ribbon in Olaf's coat. re-read CC. Yes, but we're claiming is that it wouldn't have been in Olaf's pocket because Hal had it.

Well obviously Count Olaf went and got it back from Hal. "Here now, sir, may I have that? It could be used as evidence to put an end to those children's sinister doings!" Or if you prefer he took simply came across Hal's body in the fire and took it from him. Either way, or in some other way, Olaf got the ribbon back from Hal.
As for the normal clothes thing - I'm rather disappointed in Bret for keeping up and bothering to draw the changes in clothes, including the hospital gown after the end picture of tHH and the submarine suits all throughout tGG. Daniel Handler did, I noticed, in tCC remember about the hospital gown, but apparently forgot afterward. That disappoints me as well.
