Ok, I was looking through the book The 20th Century Year by Year and I found a page that talked about the real Caligari Carnival. It was a carnival that was known for it's many different "freaks". Do you think it's just an insider comment by Handler or a reference to the time period the series happens in? I kind of think it's the former.

Can you find something about this carnival online? I think that may just be a coincidence, myself, or possibly Handler was referring to that actual carnival. Who is this book by, and why might it have an insider comment to Handler?

It is by Charles Phillips, Neil Grant and 5 other authors. It was created in 1998, so there is no insider comment. I'll try to look it up, and find some information from the book. EDIT: Sorry, I made an error. It is actualy a movie called The Cabinet of Dr Caligari that was released in 1920. In the film, Dr Caligari puts Cesare, a sleepwalker, on show at the fairgrounds of his carnival, but at night Cesare murders Dr Caligari's enemies. The sinister twist is that it later becomes clear that the story is being told by a madman in an asylum. There's more info on page 71 of the book.

Oh, we already knew that, I'm afraid. Sorry. I didn't know much about the movie before, though.

Ah, sorry Dante. It's hard to compete with so many members. At least I added some info. You may as well lock this thread.
