I'm not entirely sure, but I think we might be able to chip in over the internet using PayPal, or something similar.

I've used Paypal before, but never overseas/various currencies. But it is possible. I don't think we'll be able to raise the amount of money it's going to take to win this thing, though. I'm guessing at least $1000.

I really think it depends on: 1) Who actually knows/cares about it 2) If these people have any money 3) If these people have more money than us...

I really think it depends on: 1) Who actually knows/cares about it 2) If these people have any money 3) If these people have more money than us... 1. It was originally posted on Neil Gaiman's website, so it's a safe bet that a large group of people know, and it will get larger as the auction nears. It's also spreading in other book forums. 2. While his primary fanbase may not have the money, their parents might. Johnny Nouveau Riche may just be able to convince Daddy to whip out a check book . It is tax-deductible after all. Handler has pretty much stopped doing free readings in the Bay Area, instead concentrating on fairly expensive appearances for charity, yet they never fail to sell out. To answer an earlier but related question, Handler has plenty of adult fans...I would certainly qualify as would the friend who brought this auction to my attention. I don't mean to discourage this endeavor because I think you all deserve a nod from Snicket. However, I think Gigi is in the right ballpark. I don't expect this auction to close at less than $1000. One final note-- Paypal can certainly be used for gathering funds. You select someone to be the recipient and everyone sends funds to them. A couple things to be aware of: - That person should have a business paypal account to accept that much money. Otherwise there's a hard limit as to what you can receive and it's much lower than what I expect this auction to cost. - Paypal takes a fee off the top for money received in business accounts...I believe it's 1% or so. If you say you're going to contribute $20, you'll have to actually send $20.20 to cover that fee.

I would be willing to contribute, if we could think of something clever to use. I think the auction will probably be won by a rich adult (not me).

Thanks for the info on PayPal, The Wicker Man.
With a forum as large as this one, I think that we could have a fair shot at winning the auction...if we spread the word enough.

Yes, I was wondering that as well. Just how do we pool our money, when we are scattered all over the globe? Would we have to send cash to someone? C: Yes. Just send five hundred dollar unmarked bills to my address...

Supposing someone outbid the 667 group, what would happen to all the money that so many people had put in to the Paypal account? Is it a credit card thing that doesn't get credited until the auction is over? EDIT: I haven't looked back to see if anyone settled on a name for the group, but how about "Six Six Seven Forum"? That should make an interesting anagram, with all those Xs!

How about "Minniver Sussex Fox"? Internet Anagram ServerEdit: Although it would get mangled anyway, so perhaps an anagram isn't such a good idea...

No, we would send in our name as "Six Six Seven Forum" and it would be up to Handler to anagram it.

Yes, that is a much better idea.
Edit: Although everyone should note down "Minniver Sussex Fox" in case we ever need it.

What if we went with the most memorable member and "Six Six Seven Forum"? And for the money we could get the richest member on here to bid for us.

"Minniver Sussex Fox" is a cool name.
Does anyone here have a business PayPal account, or would be able to make one if needed? My parents have PayPal.
It would be hard to choose the one most memorable member, because there are just so many of us, and we all consider different people memorable. I like the idea of letting Handler anagram our forum name, though.
