Kay, this has been confusing me. To what extent are you allowed to swear? Like, I know different mods have different opinions, but just for the general site, how much can you swear? For instance, Dupin got mad at me because I said p*ssed in an rp. In America, p*ssed means angry, but in England, the same word means drunk. So....could someone help me out here?

I think it does depend on what the moderators approve of, really. The official rules say that you can't use profanity, so the worst swear words are certainly forbidden. And personally, I find it annoying when people overuse mild/censored swear words, although others might not mind.

I once remember Trag saying he didn't like swearing but it was okay, but that was awhile ago. You can swear if you're quoting from somewhere that swears but it's generally not accepted.
Oh personally, I don't understand why it's a problem. I'm against censorship.

Oh personally, I don't understand why it's a problem. I'm against censorship. Well, we might have young guests or member come on here and we don't want them to see profanity. Plus it's just kind of dirty, and I kind of can't understand a sentence with tons of cussing in it.

I don't particularly like swearing, but as long as it doesn't go to far, then I wont freak out. But if it is in excess, I will definitely say something.

If they're old enough to use the internet or find this site on their own, then they probably have heard swear words. Plus when you hide words from kids or tell them to not use a word it only makes them want to find those words out and use them more. They're just words, you only make them dirty when you freak out over their use. I think if you don't like the words you don't have to pay attention to them or use them but others should be free too. And I know I'm a mod so I do respect the rules and don't let anyone use those words in my sections, except if its used in creative works in CC. I won't censor that.

In America, p*ssed means angry, but in England, the same word means drunk. Actually, it's both here, and I think it's more frowned upon in the U.K. than in the U.S. And personally, I disapprove of mild profanity, but I wouldn't punish anyone for using it, unless they did it excessively. I would certainly punish people for using strong profanity, as it's against the rules.

I dispise profanity, that is why I use "fudge" in stead of F***. If it's implied, as above, I usually censor it, for the sake of our younger members.
I dislike it when people overly use it, tho. I also hate when people use "gay" in a derogative sense.
Some "profane" language actually mean other things, B***h is a term for a female dog, A** is a male donkey, C**k is a male rooster. Gay can also mean happy.
Sorry if I just pointed out the obvious.

Ass is a swear word? I'd say it's kinda borderline. So don't overuse it.

I hate swearing and I myself have barely sworn . . . except a couple of occasions.
