Linda’s Rant.
Ok, the main topic for this week’s rant is gag accounts, and (s)pam, to be particular. Now, Pam really wasn’t that clever of an account; in my opinion, it could have been done better. But Jemima wasn’t hurting anyone when she made it. It was for the simple intent to have some fun, and do a bit of a play on words between the food spam and the Internet spam.
So she sent you PMs about spam? So what? I, for one, have received much worse. Now it probably wasn’t the best idea to send repeated PMs after she’d been told to stop, but like I said, it wasn’t causing any real harm.
That said, I realize that many of you didn’t interpret it as harmless fun like I did, and got angry with Jemima. You had all the right in the world to get angry, and to tell her that you didn’t like the spam account. I respect that right. But I don’t think you should go overboard with that right. Jemima might be leaving now, and all because some 667ers made her feel inferior enough to leave. I’ve been PMing her quite a bit lately, and from what I’ve heard she thinks most of 667 has turned against her. And I really hope that’s not the case, because Jemima is a great member and one gag account doesn’t change that one bit.
Now, on to other things. The 667 Awards will most likely be over and done with by the time everyone reads this, but as I’m writing this rant, it looms ahead, with all its responsibilities and possibilities of going wrong. To be honest, I’m a bit afraid. History has not been very kind to award shows, and already we’ve had one major upset that’s threatened to ruin everything. So, here’s my fervent hope for a smoothly running show, a hope that all the work done by me, Dupin, and various others will not go to waste.
Robert says he’s leaving for a month or so. I really don’t know the circumstances surrounding this, and he’s not the emotionally unstable type that always needs to be told not to leave, so I’m not going to beg him to stay. But I am sad to see him go. He’s a great member, and although I don’t always approve of what he does, he brings a lot of life to 667 in a way that no one else quite can.
And Orphaned_Hope. I didn’t see any of her posts for a while, but now she seems to have renewed her efforts to…actually, I don’t quite know what it is she’s trying to accomplish. She begs people to put things behind them so she can start things anew and prove herself as a good member, and then goes and tells J. that she will never forget the harm that the RobertHope story did. Mixed signals, if you ask me. Oh well, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how that plays out.
Well, so long until next week. Actually, I’m thinking of switching back to my old interviewing job soon, so depending on what Akbar and PJ have to say I may not be doing the rant next week.

"Watching you, so you don't have to do it yourself."
Time once again for me to voice my controversial and rather delayed opinions... But first, I must regretfully announce that circumstances do not allow me to get married.
I am suprised and honored by the fact that someone has indeed written a of RobertHope13 shipping. Seems I can predict things fairly well. I could become the greatest prophet since Nostrodamus, though it might serve me well to write down a few random names that will be later interpreted as poor spellings of the names of dictators(like, say "Randolf Halter"). That aside, controversy stemming from J's story, and ultimately from the idea I tossed out last week, is rather fascinating. Both participants in the shipping object to it, OH13 rather more vocally than Robert. Though Setnick proved the shipping canon with an old quote from a Post Your Picture Thread(apparently OH thinks Robert is cute), they refuse to admit any truth that may lie in their pairing.
I was slightly unnerved by the joining of a new member called "spam"(or Pam, or Spammy Pammy). Although they mentioned their namesake food product and/or cyberjunk in nearly every post, they have generated relatively little of it, at least no more than many currently active members, or in sections where spam is actually disapproved of by mods. And it seems Setnick deleted some of their posts, which from what I saw of them were little more than nonsensical discussion of Spam, and therefore rather self-referential. This person seemed only slightly annoying at first, but later some complained that she harrassed them through PM. Yet apparently they weren't quite troublesome enough to merit more than a single strike. Also, in the next century a careless leader shall get a great nation involved in a war.
I had many suspects for Spamnesia Pamnesia or whatever she was being called, including several respected staff members, a program of a sort I'd be reluctant to call artificial intelligence, and the obnoxious person who sits behind me in History class. I also suspected the various people who dropped hints about knowing who it was, admittedly. (You know who you are. And if you know what someone is up to with annoying gag accounts, it's probably best not to brag about it, or people will indeed ask you things.) Then a mysterious fellow called iknowwhatshedid appeared, a holdover from the infamous Best controversy whom I understand to be Dupin, and revealed it as the normally sane Jemima. She explains that she was merely having a bit of fun, but I feel it went too far--rather too many posts and PMs, insults sprinkled in with the "i like eating spam and my spam likes spam" stuff. She found the forum uninteresting, she says--was the RobertHope13 stuff not exciting enough?
Also, Kobolos has been arguing with dimwits who speak in run-on sentences laced with chatspeak, which is always something to see. I suspect that he shall stay around for some time, and continue to, as they say, pwn. However, it seems rather...incongruous that one of our G-mods decided to lock Kobo's triumphant return thread for no clear reason(and indeed, a thread asking why she locked it, without even answering the question), but refused to do a thing about "Spammy Pammy", despite fairly widespread objections to that troublemaker. Though for all I know this is some joke that both Kobolos and the G-mod(and presumably, the person wondering about it) were in on, a manifestation of a long-standing playful rivalry, rather than a long-standing rivalry of the common or embittered type, the common rivalry being distinguished from the playful one by its long, reddish tail feathers and harsh, grating call. And you, dear reader, will suffer from a minor injury within the next month.
Oh, and Reverend Merian, whoever you are, you're not funny at all. (Dupin, who seems to have a certain knack for detecting Multiple Account Disorder, thinks Snicket (the user, not the author, though it'd be funny(the only spark of humor this multiple account has ever generated) were it the author) is responsible for this account.)
With the above-mentioned squabbles and the 667 awards, both the good ones and the ones made by Triangle Eyes, though not the ones for those who don't win awards, yet, handed out to reasonably deserving individuals, it's been an interesting week.

Awards, awards, awards. That’s all 667 seems to be nowadays. What with the not-so-superlative Superlatives and the 667 Awards coming at the same time, one winding up just before the other starts, one just seems to flit from one awards show to another. But it’s not this social butterfly lifestyle I complain about, but the awards. Or, rather, a certain awards show.
The ‘For People Who’ve Never Won Awards’ Awards are really quite stupid, in my opinion. If someone excels in a certain trait, then chances are that they’ve already been recognized for it. But if you say that people who’ve formerly awards can’t win them in this one, then you’re just, as Lauren aptly noted, giving awards to the second best. The sentiment of the awards is kind, but I seriously doubt that anyone would actually want to win these awards. To me, it seems like Songbird is just asking people to give pity votes.
As I write, I notice that Robert has started his own hilarious awards show. Quite funny. Ah, but I hadn’t noticed the Agony Awards. Bah, these continous awards are just going to agonize us more. No offense to any of the hosts or hostesses, but it’s getting to be a bit much, no?
But who am I to talk. I’ve won awards in both the Superlatives and the 667 Awards. Not to brag or anything…
Methinks that by the time this is over, people will have so many awards that their signatures will be larger than most threads.
Oh, and where the bloody hell are PJ and George’s articles? Grr.
Peace out,
Akbar.
