Round One – Match One
Kyle was beating up the red punching bag, getting himself psyched up for the match in 10 minutes. Pandora and Charlotte were doing their last minute mental preparations as well, getting ready to outsmart the competition with strategies. Willis entered the room, did a fighter pose, then said “Alright team, this is it. It’s time to prove ourselves as the ultimate fighting team of 667 Dark Avenue. They did a team squad chant together and then left for the arena. In the other locker room, Violet was trying to get her team excited for the upcoming match. Carma and songbird were trying to get into it, but they lacked intensity. Just then, Amanda barged into the room and screamed. She intensely punched a hole through the wall and yelled ‘Are you ready.’ The formerly lethargic team was got pumped up by Amanda’s excitement and ran out to the arena, ready to win.
“The first match takes place in the reptile room” said Daniel Handler. “Unfortunately, Lemony Snicket had a meeting today so I will be the sole referee, a word which here means the person who ensures that the rules of the match are abided by.” All the other teams, as well as members who were not fighting gathered outside the reptile room, peeking through the giant glass window. Before the match started, Tragedy made an announcement. “I’m so glad you are all here to support the Dark Tournament. May the best team win!” He sat down next to Fancy, then flirted with the girl to the other side of him.
Willis, Pandora, Charlotte and Kyle confidently walked into the reptile room in their uniforms which Willis’ mom sewed for them. Following close behind was Violet and her newly riled up team. The two teams got into opposite corners of the room by Daniel Handler’s instructions. “On the count of three, you may start. You may use anything you find in this room. One. Two. Three!” The fight was on.
Everybody knew the team squad was smart, but they had been planning techniques and thinking up strategies for months. They started nearing the other team in a formation. Willis and Kyle stood in front while Pandora and Charlotte stood behind them, blocked from the other teams view. Violet and Carma braced themselves, while Songbird and Amanda wandered around looking for good weapons. Kyle and Willis began to lunge at the two girls, and Violet and Carma braced themselves. All of a sudden, Willis and Kyle stopped. The girls looked at each other then back at the two awesome guys. The lull was broken when Kyle and Willis bent down simultaneously to allow Charlotte and Pandora to leap from their backs towards the startled Crew members. Pandora did a flying kick straight into Carma’s face, which caused them both to fall to the ground. Willis gave Carma a solid kick in the side to ensure she was down, then helped Pandora up from the ground. Charlotte attempted a similar kick, but Violet grabbed her leg and threw her across the room. Cages came crashing down onto her. She looked up and noticed Violet running towards her, carrying Uncle Monty’s wooden stool over her head. Thinking quickly, Charlotte noticed the poisonous frogs in the cage that fell directly to her right. She undid the latch and tossed the cage at Violet. The frogs got out and hopped on Violet’s face. She screamed and ran around blindly; running into the wall and knocking even more cages on Charlotte and herself. One giant cage fell directly on Char’s head, knocking her out. Violet laughed a little as she brushed the frogs off her face, only to realize that there were two injecting venom into her back. She panicked and fell over due to wooziness from the frog’s poison.
Songbird had hit the goldmine. She found a super long snake with a spiky tail which she would use to whip at them. She removed it from her cage and grabbed it, ready to take aim and swing. She spotted Pandora standing alone in the corner, looking over at Charlotte with concern. “This is my chance” Songbird thought. She swung the whip straight at the back of Pandora’s head. It was about to be a direct hit, when Pandora put her hand out and snatched the snake away with her killer reflexes. Then she jumped behind Songbird and wrapped the snake around her neck. Songbird struggled and choked, but Pandora was too strong and eventually Songbird passed out. The three remaining team squad members eyed Amanda, who was standing in the corner across from the window, holding a giant turtle over her head. The turtle could easily knock out any of them, and they had nothing between them to block it. Things were looking grim until Amanda peeked out the window into the crowd. She noticed Euro, desperate for attention and annoyed that nobody was looking at her. So Euro took her shirt off and started jumping up and down, hoping for somebody to notice her. Amanda noticed, and instantly fell in love. Her body started to shake with lust. Spotting an opportunity, Kyle grabbed the glass vase on the table next to him and threw it at Amanda. It shattered on her face, causing her to slip back and loose hold of the turtle. She fell back and watched helplessly as the giant reptile came hurdling down at her, pinning her to the ground. She gasped for air, and then fell unconscious. Daniel Handler blew his whistle and yelled “Team Squad Wins.” The never rude team squad went to remove the turtle from Amanda’s body, making sure she didn’t die. “Wow” said Tragedy to the girl he was hitting on that wasn’t Fancy. “That was so exciting, and it was only the first match!” The tournament was in full swing, and the best was yet to come.
