I was wondering about this book. According to Wikipedia, it is kinda like a VFD training manual, but most of the puzzles are trick questions and the like. If anyone here owns this book can they tell me what it's like? Thanks.

If you've ever read a puzzle book, The Puzzling Puzzles is a lot like that, but many of the puzzles are somewhat subversive or, as you say, are trick questions. There are impossible mazes, there are questions which rely on information you don't know - it's more of a joke book than a puzzle book. The final page reveals that it is part of a V.F.D. training manual, the idea being, presumably, that it improves one's critical thinking skills and gets you to think "outside the box," in a very ASoUE-ish definition of those kinds of abilities. The original edition was a movie tie-in book, but they later made a new edition with several more puzzles and a short introduction by R. You can see some of the puzzles using Amazon's Look Inside feature on this page.

I do own it, and I think it's very good. It's a lot of fun, both in itself and as a parody of ordinary puzzle books. Clearly Snicket and HarperCollins thought so too, as it's the only one of a range of movie-specific books and promotional items to be "canonised," if you like - reissued as a non-movie-tie-in and with more content, to boot. I think it's available in the U.K., too, so you might want to look into getting a copy; it should only be very cheap.

I think Amazon is the safest bet.

Oh, I never knew anything about this book! I assumed it was a typical puzzle book but based on what's in this thread, I may have to see if I can get myself a copy. I love subverted/funny puzzles.

I remember one of the puzzles was a picture of a policeman holding down a criminal, and the question asked what was wrong with the picture. For the life of me I couldn't figure it out, and so I showed it to my sister, who--having no prior knowledge of the series--immediately figured it out. The answer was that the cop wasn't a policeman. I still don't know how she knew that. Kinda spooky lol.
