I hope it will be a prequel series! Leave the sequels to fanfic writers!

A prequel series could be a possibility, although I can't think of much that he would be able to write about. I personally think ASOUE is best left standing on its own. :)

We'll have plenty of time to debate about it. While I assume a few details about the series will become known before its publication in 2012, it might not be immediately obvious until it comes out - or even until several books are out - if it's a prequel, sequel, paraquel...

I hope it will be a prequel series! Leave the sequels to fanfic writers! Good idea. I just had a thought that maybe he wrote a bunch of the fanfics from here in a whole collection. To have your name in a book, WOW! 8-o! Wait, no. Copyright reasons might prevent that. Oh well. Lets just wait and see!

That's very true. We have a lot of time to wait, and hopefully we will know some more details before it comes out. I'm just waiting for a publisher to get a hold of it in the US so we can know when that release date is as well.

Ugh, I know. I'll be like, a sophomore in college when they finally come out. I'm sure I'll eventually forget about them until like a month before they're released, haha.

I think we could be waiting until at least 2011 before we get any news on this series. It's very cruel in one way... I think this new series stands a serious risk of being a disappointment because we've all pictured some epic V.F.D. prequel featuring the return of the Quagmires in our heads and it ends up being something completely different. We've certainly got enough time to pitch some outlandish theories.
Maybe we could have a weekly discussion of what we think the new series could be about. Either we'll eventually stumble across something that turns out to be accurate, or we'll come up with some great fanfic ideas.

The publicity goes higher and the books sell better the longer they wait to release them. Sometimes, however, waiting too long can kill interest. I agree, though, we should keep our minds open to possible Snicket topics.

I think we could be waiting until at least 2011 before we get any news on this series. It's very cruel in one way... It's interesting. I wonder why the publication date is set so late compared to the point at which a deal is signed? Assuming Handler knows enough about the series to say it'll definitely be four books long, and for Egmont to be promoting it in the way they did, suggests that he's got a pretty clear idea of the whole series, and probably has the first book in at least a draft form. So maybe he's actually finishing the series before it's published? He certainly has time to finish at least half the series first, based on how long it took him to write each volume of aSoUE. Unless the books are vastly longer - Harry Potter lengths, whereas aSoUE was only really hitting average book length in the later books. Who's picturing such a thing? I'm sure not. My hypothetical picture is of something low-key, resembling, to begin with, the earliest books of aSoUE first of all. I would encourage everyone to assume nothing about the new series, and to certainly avoid assuming it'll have any connection to aSoUE. Personally, I actually hope it doesn't. I think that weekly is too often, considering that we have over a hundred weeks until the new books start coming out, maybe more. Some kind of event to punctuate the long years of waiting does make sense, however, and I have a couple of ideas - but I'm saving some of them. Summer's the best place to do this kind of thing. As far as publicity goes, the fact is that right now there is none. We have one press release from Egmont that sets the publication of the books so far in the future that your average book purchaser will have completely forgotten about them by the time the real publicity drive starts - which will itself be rather low-key, because how much advertising did you ever see for aSoUE? Since it's not an aSoUE sequel - that is, it's not like when we were waiting for TPP or The End - then fan buzz will be more along the lines of curiosity than fanaticism. Fact is, there's no point getting excited for a long time yet. It's just too soon. Even if you were to learn some detail right now, and it's not like that's impossible, it won't change the fact that the new books aren't coming until 2012. Probably. Buy the paperbacks, buy some of the classics alluded to in the series. We can worry about the new books in 2011.

Not that that'll stop some people. People in this thread have been hoping for a Quagmire story or a V.F.D. prequel or something connected to ASoUE - in two years that could well have evolved into a belief that that is what the story is about.
Then again, I'm no psychiatrist.

In two years, how many of you will even care?
