~~~ The official version (of this)... one presumes that we will not, in fact, have to wait until October 23rd for anything else. But this does call into question whether LSATWQ will open today.
This is concerning and I am beginning to doubt that LSATWQ will open today at all. Although, I suppose they didn't plan on this at all, probably just sent it out after they found out about the leak.
EDIT: The subject line worries me most though.
I'm not worried about the subject line. The question mark indicates that it's a questionable statement. Still, it looks like something must have not gone quite as they planned.
That is true yes, but I get the feeling from it that we'll have to wait a while from now before receiving and new information.
I really, really hope they'll still open the site today, but I'm starting to think that the leak of this cover prevented this from happening. They may have designed the website like a game or quiz (like the Namesless Novel site) so that people would have to play it in order to find out what the cover looks like. Now that it's out they may have to redesign and restructure they website, and maybe even change the cover, as today's newsletter subject line suggests.
I think that the Drop Everything announcement definitely looked like an announcement of the site opening, but now I wonder if it was, in fact, just presaging the release of the cover art. I think that explains what happened with the leak - somebody made a draft of the release image and accidentally uploaded it on the Drop Everything image's URL, and that's what we found out about yesterday / this morning. I wouldn't worry about that having been meant to be a drawn-out thing - if it was I don't think they'd have had any reason to put it online on the web address of the fourth promo. So I don't think the site will be opening today, and probably wasn't meant to. Oh well! At least we got the cover art, and the official release wasn't even too far away from the leaked release.
Edit: Although this does raise questions about the "pattern," which I think must no longer apply - and although I'm sure there'll be plenty of content before the 23rd, this does sound like a warning that we may have to wait longer than before.
If this had been the original intention of the March 28th site 'opening' (remember we were never promised anything except some sort of content change on the existing page), I think fans would have been extremely disappointed. There are only one or two fresh images here that one couldn't already view in the placeholder cover on Amazon and B&N. A weekly game reveal of characters or certain elements of the book would be fantastic (ala what UnfortunateEvents.net did many years ago when it first launched its ASOUE games), but with genuine content reveals/leads.
It seems that an actual press release went out to some media outlets accompanying the cover (as with the original announcement of the series). It includes the message from Snicket that "I suggest extreme caution … The distribution of this cover image should be on a need-to-know basis, limited to librarians, booksellers, readers, e-readers, educators, journalists, muck-rakers, bloggers, tweeters, men, women, and children" according to the following website: www.mediabistro.com/galleycat/lemony-snicket-seth-cover_b49228Apparently some guy with a blog deserves more Snicket information than the actual fans.
