I somehow didn't see this when it appeared. Wow, Lemona, this is amazing! So many mysteries! I think the writing on the wall may have been by your cousin - it certainly includes some extracts from his work, though I can't place all of them. Who are AS and SJ? I'm fairly sure 'Quorg Yen Distite' conceals a mystery, and I wonder if 'CLC' does too.
I can't believe Antenora would say 'Round white root vegetable', though.
Bertie Wooster! Is his friend anyone in particular?
And I particularly liked the bit about Tr- I'd better not write that.

penne, thanks! I'm glad someone picked up the "Pretty Woman" reference. And you're welcome. Thank you so much, Hermes. See if you can pick all of the wall-writing's origins - they all relate to my cousin or are from his work. There's just one dud. Task Number Two - "Quorg Yen Distite" does indeed conceal a mystery. "CLC" doesn't, as a matter of fact - it's merely the initials of Charon Luxury Cruises. Bertie's friend isn't any one specific - just a kind of filler character who's not important. Someone, no doubt, who bonded with Bertie after each helped the other out of an engagement. I agree with you about Antenora, in retrospect. Win some, lose some.

Thanks to my arsenal of rhetorical tools, I think I've cracked the case of "Quorg Yen Distite." It's a worrying answer, though.

Grrr! I've got six of them. Two more to find - and of course I don't know which two.

Care to post them? Then I can give misleading mysterious clues to the last two.

OK, here goes (blacked out so as not to stop others guessing):
If you can breathe, then it’s working – from WCTBATH To amuse myself during this nineteen hour wait – from TUA Haberdashery – from Thirteen Words. 688 San Jose Avenue, San Francisco – Address of Mitchell’s Ice Cream, endorsed by DH. Don’t know where to go, and we don’t know how to get there – from TSS (definition of ‘Godot’). Laborious Day 2011 – from Horseradish

Um, Tryina ... doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of blacking it out? I've located one more: If you haven’t already, get an antique wooden stand - How to Dress for Every Occasion by the Pope (but actually by Daniel Handler) Which means the dud is probably "Does anyone want a cup of coffee? Can someone call a taxi?". Adverbs mentions both coffee and taxis, but not in this context, while "acute unhappiness" is an apt description of most of Lemony Snicket's work.

All correct, Hermes. First tag is correct, QRV, but the second isn't. Let's see who can right it. *cue Dante standing on chair with hand raised*

First tag is correct, QRV, but the second isn't. Let's see who can right it. *cue Dante standing on chair with hand raised* That seems like an awesome idea.

First tag is correct, QRV, but the second isn't. Let's see who can right it. *cue Dante standing on chair with hand raised* 'acute unhappiness', though an apt description of much of your cousins' work, doesn't actually come from it. In which case the taxi thing does. (See, I thought I knew where that was from, but when I looked it up I couldn't find it.) Of course, some of these are not strictly from the works of you well-known cousin, but from those of - possibly another cousin. Or something.

That's right, Hermes. to help things along with those trying to figure out that frustrating final one, this is a similarly phrased sentence that may or may not be from the same source: "Is the library open?"
