~~~ Of course, this is an image which we actually know the context of - it's the full-page image preceding Chapter One - and as such we know that the subject line probably doesn't actually matter, as there's seemingly only one important person in that picture, and she isn't in this clip.
And indeed, it appears she is third from the left - though in crowd scenes such directions can often be ambiguous. I wonder about the context of the text snippet, though, if it is an excerpt at all; really, it could be relevant almost anywhere.
One of the things I've wondered about this illustration for some time, is if it's a great big cameo picture, featuring people throughout novel.
This reminds me vaguely of the crowd picture from The Unauthorized Autobiography- that same use of directions for "comic" (?) effect.
Yes, that struck me as well - though it is rather easier in this image to decide who is third from the left (the man in the turban, if you take it literally).
I like this idea, so many persons in the picture look interesting. The man with the turban is one of them, but I also think that the subject line isn't related to the picture because it never was.
It might be worth mentioning the full illustration went up on Facebook about an hour ago, captioned "Who is the girl in the train station?" It is also, like the Chapter One illustration, slightly bigger than the version we have already:
It is also, like the Chapter One illustration, slightly bigger than the version we have already: The bigger Chapter One image they have is slightly cut off at the edges, but this one retains the proper borders, so I'll appropriate it for the archive.
