...apparently: www.amazon.com/Could-That-This-Wrong-Questions/dp/1619692511As I'm sure you all know, Liam Aiken portrayed Klaus Baudelaire in the ASoUE movie. To be honest, I'd rather have someone with a more mature voice (like Tim Curry did in the ASoUe audio books) than a young one to read the books, but I personally won't be buying the audio book(s) anyway. Though I really do hope there'll be some new song/music to accompany each audio book of the series (The Gothic Archies, fyeah).

I'll buy the audiobook, probably. Since I've got all of ASOUE. Plus, I need audiobooks as I read because it helps my dyslexia/dyspraxia. I guess it would make sense for a younger narrator as this is a prequel, so maybe in the LS timeline, he wrote first before ASOUE.

I'd been wondering who'd be reading it. Liam Aiken is... well, completely unexpected, but I like the way that connects the book to ASoUE in an oblique fashion, and it's fitting, given the sort of protagonist and voice ATWQ is going to have.
In addition, Terry Craig, I too hope for more Gothic Archies accompaniment. We can but hope!
Edit: That snippet from Kirkus Reviews sounds pretty promising, too - references to ASoUE, but it stands on its own: Great!
Edit Again: Yep, it's definitely Liam Aiken, I just checked. No word on the Gothic Archies, though, but my fingers are crossed.

I understand the Gothic Archies songs were a special request by Handler and released shortly before the series' conclusion. That said, even if potential songs aren't on the audiobooks, they could be released later as singles and possibly embedded into future editions.

If Tim Curry is not doing the audiobooks for ATWQ then that's really sad....

I think that they needed a different narrative voice. The Snicket who narrates ASoUE is considerably older than the Snicket who narrates ATWQ. Cheer up; ten audiobooks out of Tim Curry wasn't bad going.

Strictly speaking, isn't ATWQ narrated by an old Lemony looking back on his youth? But I'd agree that a reader the age of the Lemony in the story (not that he is exactly that, of course) makes sense.

The narrating Snicket's temporal proximity to events in ATWQ isn't nearly as important as it is in ASoUE. Most of the deixis is absolutely in the moment and there are only a scarce handful of references to the future. There's a strong sense of immediacy to the text, and we're clearly meant to identify the one experiencing the story as the younger Snicket.

The same structure appears in To Kill a Mockingbird: the narrator is looking back on her youth, but the experiences are relayed almost entirely through the eyes of her younger self. On another note, though, while the events in ATWQ clearly take place before ASOUE, we can still question what span of time the entire series will cover. As of the first four chapters, Lemony is still twelve.

When I read most of the first chapters I feel like a young Lemony speaks to me, not an old one, so I like it with a younger voice.

Oh no, I'm not that mad about it. I didn't mean for it to sound that way. If Liam Aiken is actually doing it, then I'm sure he'll do a good job. I'm just a big fan of Tim Curry and I thought his reading of ASOUE was fantastic. And because of that, it's going to be a little hard to think of the audio books without him. I'll just miss him, that's all.

I never listened to an English ASOUE audio book, but if they are that good I have to do that.

I agree, Curry is excellent. I have high hopes for Liam Aiken, though, particularly given his connection with the movie.
