(Am I allowed to post this or do I have to be someone important?)

Ah, it's there! The last one! And no, Anka, anybody can post these or any Snicket news. You were just the fastest! So I guess this poem is about VFD? Will we know more about Snicket's training days before ATWQ in the next book? Also the "Lost" may or may not be an allusion to someone whose first name is Prosper. I always thought he was very suspicious. But clear cut in this poem it ain't.

Of course you're allowed to post it, Anka! It's whoever gets there first. That's just usually me, but not today! (I have it on one of my e-mail addresses, but not the other. Odd.)
And so the cycle closes with the final stanza. It's dramatic, certainly, and foreboding, but we don't learn anything new from it. I feel like the stage has been set, though - we have our villains, and now we have a call for a hero. And these stanzas and the way they seem to overview the premise of the whole series rather than just the first book make me think more and more that the title "Who Could That Be At This Hour?" will have a certain amount of importance to the whole series, after having not much importance in the first book.

I agree that there's not really anything new. It's a nice conclusion and it tells us again what what we already know: There will be someone evil doing something bad in the night. And many questions. The stanzas 2,5 and 7 (those who were sent at last) are completely made of questions, the others only have the questions in the end.

I think that what excites me most, now, is the fact that the next Snicketmail will have to follow a completely different format. It won't be another stanza, so what will it be? Will it still be using ?1 resources? Will it be soon or will they go on a long break 'til ?2?

I've aggregated all the stanzas for your convenience into their correct order below:
THE INK HAS BEGUN TO FADE FROM THE SEA, THE COFFEE IS STARTING TO SOUR; BUT THE QUESTION THAT TROUBLES ALL BUSINESS IN TOWN IS WHO COULD THAT BE AT THIS HOUR?
WHY DOES THE LIBRARIAN WEEP EVERY NIGHT? WHY IS THE CHEMIST SO DOUR? WHY IS THE STATUE ON EVERYONE'S MIND? WHO COULD THAT BE AT THIS HOUR?
A SCREAM CAN BE HEARD FROM A MANSION THOUGHT EMPTY, A BELL CAN BE HEARD FROM THE TOWER, A QUESTION IS WHISPERED FROM BEHIND EV'RY DOOR: WHO COULD THAT BE AT THIS HOUR?-
WHEN THE DARK SUN RISES IT BURNS LIKE A BLAZE; THE RAIN IS AN ICY-COLD SHOWER, BUT AT NIGHT THE INHABITANTS LOOK TO THE SKY- WHO COULD THAT BE AT THIS HOUR?
WHAT IS THAT HOVERING OVER THIS TOWN? WHAT SINISTER THING COMES TO POWER? WHAT QUESTIONS UNASKED HOLD THE ANSWERS UNSAID? WHO COULD THAT BE AT THIS HOUR?
AT NIGHT, SOME HORRIBLE THING COMES TO LIFE, IT BLOOMS LIKE SOME DARK, EVIL FLOWER, IT RATTLES AND KNOCKS AS IT SLITHERS ON PAST, WHO COULD THAT BE AT THIS HOUR?
WHAT WILL YOU DO WHEN THEY STRIKE IN THE NIGHT? WILL YOU STAND? WILL YOU RUN? WILL YOU COWER? WHO WILL YOU TURN TO WHEN ALL SEEMS QUITE LOST? WHO COULD THAT BE AT THIS HOUR?

4 and 5 imply that the night terror comes from the sky, while 6 implies land.

Will it still be using ?1 resources? Will it be soon or will they go on a long break 'til ?2? I completely agree with Dante on this. I will kick the promotional team if we stop getting Snicketmail. Also, I am getting more and more pissed off at the lack of Sebald code in anything. There is a giant bell in the town, and rings and all sorts of things, yet no Sebald code. If we don't get the Sebald code we so deserve I will be annoyed. On an unrelated note, I have just had a thought. What if Pip and Squeak have been introduced to be the taxi drivers from ASOUE. Maybe not all of them, but at least one of them. Perhaps TRR one or TWW one. IDK.

Then I will throw them to the Bombinating Beast IF WE STOP GETTING SNICKETMAIL.Good job, Charlie. On an unrelated note, I have just had a thought. We had always believed that the taxi driver was Lemony.

It is possible to overstate the importance of Sebald Code. Outside of the U.A., there's only one example, despite several other passages involving arbitrarily ringing bells. Still, I don't think it would hurt, and it wouldn't exactly be difficult to work in.
I seriously think Snicketmail's here to stay, though. As far as I'm concerned, it's been a big success - a great way of proliferating art previews and keeping us speculating.

No I think they're going to continue Snicketmail for sure, in the end it's just a newsletter, which most everyone in the promotional business uses no questions asked. But I don't think we're going to get any new mailouts for another several months, until the promo campaign for the next book starts.

I didn't expect that there would be something great and significant which we only see after getting all the stanzas, but I can't say I didn't hope so. But now it looks like there isn't. I also hope there will be more mails!

But I don't think we're going to get any new mailouts for another several months, until the promo campaign for the next book starts. I think that's a definite possibility, yes. It's worth remembering that, during the ?1 campaign, there was a month-long break at one point, and others of nearly that length; if they break to await resources for ?2, I wouldn't find it unreasonable for that to take months. So I am fully prepared to not see any more Snicketmails for a while - but we will see more. And they might decide to just keep on using ?1 illustrations in the meantime anyhow. Hmm... fortunately we have quite good record-keeping for this book. We had the cover of ?1 by late March, but a teaser cover in early February. It'll definitely be interesting to compare this to what happens for ?2.
