Since there has been a rash of spamming going on lately, I believe, three different cases this week, perhaps some extra-precautions should be needed. Like a member with some extra-powers, like a global moderator, but only with the ability to delete posts. And this person, or perhaps persons, would have to be in different time zones so that there is always a person ready to de-spammify the forum.

I rather like this idea, but if this were to happen I propose that instead of just deleting posts, these anti-spammers should have the ability to modify posts, move and lock them. What of a spammer starts a thread, and loads of people reply to it? You can't go about deleting the first post and then going on your merry way, can you? Either that or enforce a "No replying to spam rule", which I think needs to be done anyway. Anywho, if the anti-spam bit goes through, I vote the enforcers to be Pandora, Ennui, Beatrix, PJ, and Amber because of the wide time zone range they cover.

I think that the enforcers should be non-moderators, which would exclude Pandora from Derik's suggested list but only require one other member to replace her.
I think that powers should include the power to delete posts, remove threads, lock threads, and move threads - and locking polls just in case, and to give them the full set.
A "no replying to spam" rule might be a good idea, but it might also result in spam going un-noticed.
Edit: One might also wish to differentiate between spam posts and spam threads.

I'm all for this. It's so frustrating standing by unable to punish spam. Particularly for a chap who had to go into rehab after losing moderator power...
(That could refer to me, or PJ. Or both of us, indeed...)
Also, I'm amused to see one of those delightful porcines supports such an elevation...

I like this idea, and I also think we should encourage people not to reply to spam threads.
And I think PJ and Ennui are good candidates for this job, as well as the others Derik mentioned. They're active members who cover a wide range of time zones.

I haven't really got anything to add, just that I agree with and like this idea.
I like being mentioned

Same hereHmm, Tragedy hasn't replied yet. Perhaps there is some spell to summon him.... I'll try calling his name three times. TRAGEDY! TRAGEDY! TRAGEDY! *plane explodes into garden* oops. Wrong spell.

I often check all the sections, even ones a seldom visit (the two LLs - Literature and LOTR), so I would like to nominate myself as a Spam-Stopper, should this come into effect.

' well done Marc',

Yes, somehow I'm not sure this requires a "takes one to know one" set of agents...

Wait, isn't it a moderators job to get rid of spam? *shrug*
But if it goes ahead, I agree with what other people have thought really.

Wait, isn't it a moderators job to get rid of spam? *shrug* Yes, but moderators aren't always online. Same goes for our only working Global Moderator. If Derik and Tragedy aren't on, and a section is being spammed but that section's moderator is away, then there's nothing that anyone can do about it. This actually happens fairly frequently, as spammers don't seem to limit themselves to single sections. What we're asking for are like universal moderators, but with none of the extra powers that Global Moderators get. Just the basics of post deleting, thread locking and removing and moving. The power to delete members would be convenient, too.
