And what I ask is the exact significance of this highlighted passage on Daniel Handler's agent's website? A possible television series?

Since you discovered this, your thread should trump mine, so I'm moving my post over here: Full credit to Tuesday for observing this: And what I ask is the exact significance of this highlighted passage on Daniel Handler's agent's website? This is Daniel Handler's page on his agent's website. Note the highlighted line, indicating that ASoUE is presently being developed for TV. I've used the Internet Archive to determine that this information was added between July 18th and August 16th, so this is a very recent development - it may be a long time, and indeed forever, before we ever learn anything more. Still, this is just what many of us have been crossing our fingers for for years, so let's hope for a great success!

This is quite an intriguing find considering how little information there is relating to it. A Series of Unfortunate Events television series would prove to be a much more adaptive format than any movie series could be. I think a lot more of the mystery and details that Snicket puts into the books would work much better in an episodic format as the story could be told at a much less rushed pace. It would be truly extraordinary if this ended up panning out in the long run.

Once the AVClub asked the question "What premise do you wish was explored by someone else?" and somebody in the comments suggested A Series of Unfortunate Events show run by Bryan Fuller (Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, Hannibal). I love that idea, as his visual style and dark humor would fit perfectly. He is quite busy at the moment though, so it's a pipe dream. I do love the idea of asoue series in general, although the aging of the cast might be an issue, so I can't see it really working long term unless it's animated.

I guess it depends on how many seasons they'd make. It could be a miniseries, or 2 seasons, like many cult TV shows (f.ex. Twin Peaks). In both cases I don't think the actors would age too much.
I'm holding back my hopes for this, even though I'd be all for it, of course, since the little info bit has already been removed from the site. It could've been an error, or maybe outdated information, dating back to 2004 when the movie came out.

It could've been an error, or maybe outdated information, dating back to 2004 when the movie came out. Ah, so it has been removed! I wondered if it might be. I'd be a bit surprised if the information was outdated, though; it was added literally a couple of months ago, glued onto a pre-existing section mentioning ATWQ, ASoUE, and the movie. It'd be a bit odd if they were pasting from decade-old PR copy. Here's a before and after for comparison: web.archive.org/web/20140718010650/http://barclayagency.com/handler.htmlweb.archive.org/web/20140816220102/http://barclayagency.com/handler.html

It is interesting that it was deleted. That could mean a few things; that it was added accidentally and as soon as it was brought to their attention they removed it or that it was simply outdated or no longer accurate and thus needed to be removed. So either they let the information slip accidentally or it's no longer in development. Or I guess the third option is that whoever wrote it just made it up... The timing is interesting though. Really, at this point it could mean anything, but I'll be cautiously optimistic for now.
Really, I think it's highly possible. I mean it is a property that could work in a lot of ways. Like a half hour cartoon or a one hour drama, there's a lot of possibilities for it, so that certainly leaves the door wide open. And with Hollywood desperately trying to create franchises for the young adult demographic I feel like now is as good a time as any for a comeback.

It is very strange that they took down the reference to the television show shortly after it was posted.

Shortly after it had been noticed, anyway; I'm not sure if that's what you meant, but it had been there for a few months. I've seen a few examples of information being placed on official websites before it was actually ready to be announced, and subsequently being retracted after it gained widespread notice, and I'm hoping that that's what happened here. It was disclosed too soon.

Just to be clear, was this taken down right after it was posted about on here? Or did Tuesday have an older screenshot?
