If I am not wrong, in TWW when the baudelaires were taking a taxi up the hill, the taxi drivers says that lake larchymose was a place for tourists so there were not many people there then. But if tourists visited lake larchymose, it seems like someone would be bound to forget about the leeches and get attacked. P.S. I am not very sure if they mention anything about that in the UA because i am still trying to obtain it.

The leeches are harmless to humans (Josephine says they only hunt small fish, on page 32 of TWW) if you haven't eaten in the past hour. Besides, their territory is only one area of the lake (TWW, page 164). So leech attacks are probably easy enough to avoid.

I can't recall TWW saying/implying anywhere that there haven't been leech attacks in the past (we know Ike was victim of one, for starters); unless you think it would prevent tourists from visiting the lake, I think it's quite possible (especially in the odd, unfortunate world the series is set in) that there are frequent leech attacks.

It would make sense but now I am wondering why Ike would risk swimming in a leech territory (Ike was probably just as cautious about everything like Josephine. He did use a special glove to pick up the telephone.

I think there are probably signs placed around the coast and beaches warning swimmers of the dangers. As for Ike, the manner of his death does seem somewhat out of character, so perhaps, given that we later learn that the Anwhistles were both volunteers, there was more to Ike's death than Josephine was willing to share. (I have written a fanfiction based around this interpretation.)

Don't bring logic into this.
