Well, let's make lists (I often find aid in lists and schedules).
Evidence for it being fanmade:
-The very early time of release, basically nothing having been revealed about the series before. -The extreme - fanatic - attention to detail, cramming in objects from various books. -The means of release: A youtube channel named after a very minor character from the series, with no clear connection to any official channels. -The lack of any actual new information about the series - no dates or names are revealed. Even Olaf's silhouette is clearly stylised to look like Helquist's illustrations. -Last, but not least, the reports of a Netflix representative actually saying it isn't theirs. I've googled it, and many internet sources confirm it. If it's real, we have a netflix official either lying or being held out of the loop.
Evidence for it being official:
-The impressive visual expertise and presumably large budget. Seriously, this trailer is of a higher quality than a lot of things I've seen from official companies. -Amanda Palmer, the singer in the song used as its soundtrack, sharing it on youtube. -EDIT: Oh, I just thought of one more. The fact that Netflix is one of the few companies which I believe would do this and then lie about it to see the fans trying to figure things out.
My hopes are lowering. I love this trailer, but if it's fake, I can't help blaming its creators for getting my hopes up. If it's real, though, it's brilliant in both idea, execution and presentation.

I just see this post. I commented a lot about the trailer in the other post, should I copypaste everything or there's a way to merge both topics or something like that?

But wait... Eleonora Poe, as a character, is famous for redacting serious articles and replacing them with lies, passing them off as true. Is this some elaborate joke on the trailer ? As in, "the person who tells you this is a lie is a liar, therefore it must be true" ?
...my head hurts. Especially when you're aware Handler is essentially a promotional troll. I mean, this is the guy who managed to hide TPP's title AND cover until the day before it was released. He's evil enough to employ this kind of mental torture. Especially when you remember the whole series was based off a fake anti-marketing scheme : "don't read this, it's terrible !" Is Netflix taking a page off his book and pretending the series isn't being made ?

I don't buy it being fan-made with those production values; it is simply too good not to have serious money behind it. I'd be surprised if an individual could spend that much on props and cinematography, and I don't see any organisation capable of ponying up that kind of cash then putting the Netflix logo at the end, unofficially, and leaving out their own. It might conceivably be that there's a situation here of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing regarding Netflix's low-level support staff, and I wouldn't be surprised if the official line later changed to "No comment." This is exactly the kind of ambiguity and confusion I would expect from Snicket, though. I'm really suspicious at this point - suspicious of fakeness more than realness. Evidence for it being fanmade:-The very early time of release, basically nothing having been revealed about the series before. All these points against are things which I would fully expect a viral teaser campaign to do, though. I regard these as neutral points. But once we get the VFD eye in the books, we are meant to believe that that's what we've been seeing all along (even though earlier things are inconsistent with it - it's hard to see how Dr Orwell's office could be built in the shape of a VFD eye, for instance). Not really. It's clear that there must be lots of eyes in the series, particularly the ones decorating Olaf's home, which aren't duplicates of the V.F.D. insignia. It's only in the context of people's ankles that there's a particular problem; I'd accept anything but the ankle tattoo being represented with a regular eye, as it's just too hard to fit into Orwell's office and Esmé's handbag. ...my head hurts. Especially when you're aware Handler is essentially a promotional troll. I mean, this is the guy who managed to hide TPP's title AND cover until the day before it was released. He's said in the past that that was all on HarperCollins; he didn't know in advance that they were even planning to do it.

Dante's right. The teaser is waaayyy to expensive-looking to be fake.

Put it this way: If it is fake, it's been produced by fans with a suspicious amount of cash, expertise, and free time. I'm not sure that's more plausible than Netflix rustling it up as viral marketing and lying about it.

I just see this post. I commented a lot about the trailer in the other post, should I copypaste everything or there's a way to merge both topics or something like that? Don't you use Recent Posts? I thought everyone did, except the very senior members who were here before it existed. But I don't think merging the threads would help, as the other thread is for series discussion generally.

Every time I start to doubt if its real or not, I think about that Lachrymose Leech and how well done it is; and I don't think some wealthy and talented fans would risk putting Netflix's name on it and risk potential legal ramifications. Also, seeing that it was uploaded under the name Elenora Poe made me believe more in its authenticity. Everything about it just screams Handler and his flair for the dramatic

I'm confused because the teaser is apparently fanmade? A guy from Netflix told CW that it wasn't them. The teaser was good though!

There are now numerous sites claiming that this is a fake.
My question is that if the trailer was made by a fan, how is that fan not a member of our site?
I haven't posted in a Snicket thread in so long but this trailer got me extremely pumped for the series so I hope it's real.
