- mr. poe is easily and by far the funniest character in the series
- fernald, jacques, jerome, charles, josephine, most of the characters in the endand fiona or sophia or whatever her name was are all very dull characters
- uncle monty is sorta rather obnoxious
- the miserable mill is great
- the wide window is so dull and unimaginative. at least snicket tried to spice the miserable mill up by including stuff like hypnotism and a baby fighting a fully grown up person with her teeth.
- mr sir ≥ mr remora and mrs bass > orwell > emse > ishmael
- can someone please tell me what the fuss is over the quagmires? they're literally just this one kid who's a journalist, this one kid who writes poems, and this one kid who... uh..... i don't know... likes maps or something? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i don't even remember
- jim carrey's performance as olaf was great
- while nowhere near one of the biggest hacks around, barry sonnenfeld is a somewhat pedestrian choice to direct the netflix series. this is going to sound silly, but i'd rather have someone like michael bay in the director's chair because even if they mess it up the final product would at least be "interesting".

ending the series with THE ACTUAL BOMBINATING BEAST show up was an enormous cop out and so absurd. i know i said earlier that i like TMM for its absurdity but this one totally crossed the line. the whole book was quite mediocre, too: most of the "reveals" came off as either contrived (reveal of who pocket and walleye and Eratosthenes) or ones that anybody could've seen coming (armstrong feint). it was just overall a very hamfisted, strained book and basically the snicket equivalent of season 4 of community, but certainly less fanservice-y.
