The worst part is that I can remember seeing that logo online when it leaked. I feel soooooo old! Anyone remember this one?

I agree, that looks along the lines of Netflix's temporary logo design on the erstwhile casting call website. But I've never seen this one before. What I have seen recently, though, was a collection of early concept art by a Peter Chan for the 2004 movie. I don't know whether this has been posted on 667 before, but here is the collection on Chan's website (incl. an early version of the VFD spyglass when it was also a cell phone!), and this is one of Chan's designs for the ASoUE logo:

We see placrs we don't even see in the books--the dock house at Damcoles Dock and inside the trolley, for example, as well as extra Reptile Rooms. AND LOOK! The Anxious Clown made an appearance. It IS neat to see the things which ended up in the film almost unchanged--the ferry, for example, and large sections of Olaf's house. ALSO--a potential clue to Snicket appearing on screen. He's drawn into the trolley sketch. Perhaps they were gonna have him there? I can imagine tbe streetcar emptying out, we see the Baudelaires through the window as it rolls away, and the camera pulls back to reveal Snicket at the lone passenger...

Wow, the style is way off. Good, for the right purpose, very Murder Most Unladylike, but it doesn't fit the series. The worst part is that I can remember seeing that logo online when it leaked. I feel soooooo old! Anyone remember this one? Good golly, that takes me back. Fan-made, wasn't it? Rather like that irritating fan-made Netflix poster that one sees in half the unresearched articles about the TV show despite the fact that it misspells one of the main characters' names... I agree, that looks along the lines of Netflix's temporary logo design on the erstwhile casting call website. But I've never seen this one before. What I have seen recently, though, was a collection of early concept art by a Peter Chan for the 2004 movie. Wow! It's a lot more whimsical than what we ended up with, isn't it? So elaborate that it probably would always have worked better as an illustration, alas. One interesting detail I note is that the idea of Olaf's theatre being literally in his back yard appears to have been in the movie from early on. The Last Chance appears to have been in for a while, too - that being involved in the rearrangement of TBB to sandwich the rest of the movie strikes me as something that could easily have been anticipated for a long while - but what are the Damocles Dock constabulary doing in the film? Intriguing. The Anxious Clown being in at some point is interesting, but I can see how easy it would have been to cut that for time - time possibly saved because it looks like, in this version, the Baudelaires don't steal a boat, they build one from the wreckage of Aunt Josephine's house. Fascinating! The spyglass / cell phone is rather bizarre, though; given who's using it, I get the impression it's not the V.F.D. spyglass but a replacement for the walkie-talkies Olaf used in the book. Ah, this is a lot closer to what we ended up with, isn't it...

I love how these concepts go from dark and spooky. Haunted Mansion style logos to basically five minutes in MS Paint but I love them all equally.

All of the concept art is so good, especially Peter Chan's, and I liked the first logo the most.

Never seen this piece of movie merchandise before, but yes, it appears so! I search eBay randomly sometimes so I knew when I saw this thread that I had seen that picture somewhere before ;P Sadly, they used to have a concept art book for the movie made by the director on there. I wanted to buy it but I can't find it anymore, and it was available for the longest time Now I can't even find a photo of it.
