I just finished ATWQ which I loved and was wondering if I should buy File Under. I have read bothe the Beatrice Letters and TUA and loveD the context that it gave to the series. Just wondering if File Under did the same for ATWQ that TAU did for ASOUE.

You should read it, but it's not doing the same thing as the U.A. and TBL. Rather than developing the backstory, File Under is more about developing the setting of Stain'd-by-the-Sea, portraying the many curious individuals who live there and the strange conundrums of their lives.

Ok that sounds interesting. Plus I love the lemony universe so anything set in it I have to read.

File Under is one of my favourite Snicket books: it's a collection of very short stories about Snicket's time in Stain'd-by-the-Sea. It's not like TUA or TBL because it's structured more as a normal book (it would make sense even to those who hadn't read ATWQ) rather than TBL, which turns out to be two separate stories jumbled together or TUA, which is just a mess (albeit an intriguing and entertaining one). It doesn't give too much insight into the universe of ATWQ but I would thoroughly recommend it.

Another yes vote here. It's also fun to see if you can figure out the mysteries before reading their conclusions; they range between obvious, obvious but funny, and inventive.

I'm going to say yes, too, for the same reasons as everyone else (and with the same disclaimer: That it's more characterisation than plot - so basically, I guess, that's a no: It doesn't do the same for ATWQ as TAU did for ASOUE).
Though, honestly, which answer were you expecting from a Snicket fansite? ;J

I'm glad to hear that the book is so liked. I'll have to order a copy from Amazon soon. But I guess I what was I expecting other wise.

Just finished reading File Under. I had got a copy form the library because my Amazon wasn't coming fast enough ( that's just how crazy I am)
I feel that it ended up being in my best interest to actually read this book right after I had just finished ATWQ because I feel like they are several references that I wouldn't have gotten. There seems to be a lot of references to bombinating beast and how it gets around as well as hangfire stealing and teamsporting it's eggs in the faux answers.
The references to Sir and other characters were great. The Biggest thing I can't figure out is the Last word ( which I don't think you can.) I feel like it has something about removing every other world like in the play without a message. But nothing seems to work. Oh well thanks everyone for having me get it. It was a great read hopfully we have a third series soon so I can get more Snicket in my life.
