I'm probably going to rewatch the movie and then watch the series, and probably compare the three versions. I mean, I'm almost done re-reading The End, and I don't even own The Beatrice Letters or the Unauthorized Autobiography.

I'm probably going to watch the whole thing on the 13th.
I think the best thing to do is a thread per episode, and then a general thread for the show.

I will watch the whole thing on Friday with my mom, possibly leading into Saturday if need be depending on if she's working on Friday, and if Netflix has been made more or less blind friendly by January (they waffle,; right now it's great, but last month I couldn't navigate to episodes unaided). It will be my last weekend before I start up school again, so it will be my end-of-break present to myself.

I'm definitely going to binge. I prefer to marathon things, in general- I understand that watching it an episode at a time helps many people digest and think about it, but I think watching it all at once is a much more immersive way to go about it.

I do much the same. Having the time to digest and analyse the episodes makes me consider pacing myself in many similar cases, but you can always go back and notice new details, and I'm not going to get another chance to get as immersed in the show as I will by binging without having seen it before.

Yep, exactly! Last night I went to go see a classic Doctor Who serial at my local movie theater, where they strung together around 6 or so episodes, and I think that was the perfect way to watch it. I wonder if there's any way we can convince Netflix to show A Series of Unfortunate Events in theaters when it comes out? Maybe we could get a petition and send it to Fathom Events or something.

Definitely watching one per day. Similarly to forcing myself to read slower, this will hopefully make sure I take my time to digest everything before diving into the next episode.
As for threads here, I would call for either a thread per episode or thread per book (I actually like the sound of a thread per book; consider each book a two-part episode). Either way they should ideally be kept free of spoilers from future episodes. This way someone like myself can watch the first episode or two, check out the thread to see what nuances I may have missed, maybe contribute a few nuances of my own, then dive into the next episode.

I agree, thread per book sounds good. No way in gehenna I'm pacing myself, so a thread-per-episode system doesn't interest me. Thread per book, on the other hand, seems like a good way to discuss adaptive changes, pacing, how characters are handled, all that good stuff. The books by their nature are episodic, so it makes sense. After all, characters like Monty and Aunt Jo and Doctor Orwell will likely only appear in two episodes.

I think the key question here is one of spoilers. It could be: 1) Each book's thread is kept spoiler free from ones following it. In this case, there would likely need to be a general thread for the whole series to discuss everything with spoilers, or the TMM thread just becomes the place to discuss everything. 2) Spoilers allowed everywhere. This would make the four threads simply places to discuss stuff specific to that book, but they would not be to assist the (apparently crazy) people like me who would like to take their time. While I would like option 1, option 2 is likely more realistic.

I was under the impression that we were doing the first option, with the TMM thread essentially working as a discussion thread for the whole series. Although I'm watching the whole series as soon as possible, and so don't really have much stake in the decision, I still think option 1 is the more aestethically and logically pleasing, so I'd prefer that.

I think option 2 is best, with a caveat; in each book thread, spoilers should be allowed only under spoiler tags, so the slow watchers and spoilerphobes are safe and the rest of us cn still discuss.

In my opinion, the best way to do it would be to have spoiler tags used for all discussion of the series (for at least a fortnight), and if you're on, say the discussion thread for the second "book", anything you want to say about later "books" should be marked as such. The reason to use spoiler tags for everything is for people looking at the recent posts feed - after each ATWQ book release 667 had a similar process of spoiler tagging everything for a fortnight. So for instance a typical post might be like:
