Hello guys! I have been a quiet spectator of 667 Dark Avenue for quite some time, reading theories and just enjoying your discussions in silence. I've decided to finally join you simply because I need your advice. For my Literary Translation Workshop at my University, I've been assigned an about 20-pages long translation of a literary text of my choice. Well, it was not hard to pick. The Beatrice Letters is the only ASOUE book that has not been translated into Polish (my native language), so with my undying love and absolute obsession for Mr Snicket works the choice was obvious. I am done with the translation draft, but as you know, TBL is full of word-games, anagrams, complicated sentences and messy timelines. I have been asking many of my friends for help, but explaining the plot of all ASOUE books was simply too complicated, so I have decided to ask you, the experts, for help. I know that you (or at least, most of you) don't know my language so you won't be able to help with the translation itself, but I have many, many theoretical and plot-related questions, and I can explain to you my linguistic problems. I would appreciate if any of you could tell me in which section I should make my "Please help me, TBL translation is killing me slowly and painfully" topic and I hope that you are all alive and well.
Yours in business
N.

Good memory, ole bear; I do speak Polish. Welcome, nieckot! With detailled theoretical and plot-related questions, there are a number of other members that would be able to help you better than I, and you can post your questions in the Burdensome Books>Sardonic Series section.
When it comes to your translation, I can do my best to help you out with any linguistic problems. I actually read a couple ASoUE books in Polish translation, so I remember how some of the trickier things have been translated officially (like WZS for VFD).

Sardonic Series or its subboard Anguished Appendices would be appropriate. I look forward to your questions.

Hi there! Your workshop sounds very interesting, and I can only applaud your choice of book. I don't personally speak a word of Polish, but if you don't mind explaining the nuances of your translation, I'd love to hear more about your project and the decisions you make in translating. We're a whole bunch of language nerds here anyway, so I'm sure many of us would take an interest. Just out of curiousity, can I ask what it is you study at uni? =)
I hope you'll enjoy being an active member here! ^_^
