Here, you may discuss Netflix's Penultimate Peril episodes. If you haven't seen them yet, engage with this thread at your peril, penultimate or otherwise.

This season as a whole is brilliant, but I did notice a place where they got carried away with the cameos here. Namely, what the hell is one of the Elders from the Village of Fowl Devotees doing aboard the trolley? Doesn't he realize that's a mechanical device? Pretty hard to miss!

I'm still processing the fact that they tied Larry up, hung him upside-down and boiled him alive as he drowned. I am very proud of them for making that decision.

Seen them, but just commenting for now to keep track of this thread, as with the others -- just too much to process to get it all in writing yet.
But my first comment shall be that these episodes were wonderful, I loved the way they split the Baudelaires' errands, and the whole visual style of the Hotel Denouement and the surrounding area was AMAZING.

My favourite line in the whole season is when Esme says she doesn't have a daddy anymore either.

Very Ferocious Drama. Very much so indeed. I appreciate it would have been hard to bring back everyone, but they certainly brought some hilariously obscure ones, they just needed the family from TCC! The Denonument triplets were good. I'm not sure how I think of Justice definitely surviving, but I did like Lemony. Patrick Warburton was sensational. Certainly re-watchable, nice reprise of "Not How the Story Goes".

Timeline Trouble ahoy.
The reveleations about the origin of the Schism in the Netflixverse are all fine and good, but I'm not sure they entirely make sense. If the Sugar Bowl's theft is what caused the Schism, and it was stolen because Beatrice was worried about Anwhistle's research on the Mycellium — then why did Anwhistle research the Mycellium? Because Fernald's account implied that it was as a weapon agains the fire-starting side…

I can think of two coherent scenarios that seem to fit all the facts:
1. The Mycellium was discovered in the Grotto and researched purely for science's sake during the golden age. The cure was developed as the research made it clear how dangerous the fungus was. Then the schism happened over the sugar bowl and Gregor changed the focus of his research. Fernald, who hadn't signed up for a war, became disillusioned with his stepdad's side of the schism, destroyed the lab, and switched sides thinking that the other side was clearly the more aggrieved party (victims of theft, assassination, and now biological warfare!).
2. The MWBBNH and the WWHBNB were always enemies of VFD (possibly early defectors who just didn't cause a schism, possibly villains the organization fought to stop) and the Mycellium was targeted at them. When the schism happened, they used Olaf's side to their own ends and became more incorporated into the secrets if they weren't already. Fernald's disillusionment and arson is still likely schism-related, since it seems he joined Olaf right away.

I am still in ep 5 but am very into the fact that Babs and Jerome are our new bi icons.

People are talking about how Jerome and Babs are with Charles and Mrs.Bass. What did I miss? In the sauna scene, their dialogue soon explains that they're only acting as a couple at the request of J.S., as part of some kind of scheme, and are kind of uncomfortable with it, as they are both in relationships of their own. Jerome mentions that he met his current companion at a club of people formerly in abusive relationships, and that he works at a lumbermill (hence, pretty obviously Charles); Babs mention that her lady friend is missing due to being in jail for bank robbery (hence, pretty obviously Mrs Bass, last seen being arrested for bank robbery in TSS).

Thanks! It obviously went in one ear and out the other!
