This is a thread that serves as a brain storm. I mean, I would like to hear from all of you, what you like to find in a good ASOUE fanfic. Let me be clearer: I'm not talking about specific ideas for ASOUE fanfics. I am referring to what writing styles, plot structures, formats, ways of working on the ideas you like to find in an ASOUE fanfic, which can also (perhaps) apply to any fanfic. You can also write about things you don't like to find in a fanfic. (Again I don't mean specific ideas).
I will cite a particular example of mine.
I don't like long, time-consuming descriptions of places and accurate physical descriptions of characters. On the other hand, I like when the writer is able to demonstrate the mental characteristics of the main characters within the plot.
I also like the good use of the asoue appendices, and I like it when expanding the geographical scenarios of ASOUELAND.

A wry, sardonic tone and sense of humour. Digressions in the narration. An understanding of the characters, rather than a deliberate distortion/misrepresentation of their personality to have them align with the author's headcanon - unless it's meant to be funny.

I love a good plot twist, or also when the story comes full circle and something from the introduction ends the fic.

Would anyone like to quote a good fanfic that you read that fits your own good ASOUE fanfic standards?

I like stories that aren’t one-sided. Sometimes I find fics which show VFD as this perfect organisation which no sane person would turn down the opportunity to join, completely ignoring their dark side. I also sometimes see stories which show Esmé’s obsession with fashion as the only aspect of her character, ditto with the special abilities of any other characters. I hate this.

I would love to see your sincere opinion regarding my fanfic Untie My Silence Knot. I have a not as negative view as yours, it seems, about VFD, but I still believe that I have a realistic enough view about the VFD negative points. I would like your review, R. , if possible.
I fully agree with your observation about how uninteresting one-dimensional characters are.
But of course, sometimes characters who are just there to complete scenarios are really one-dimensional. But one-dimensional protagonists and antagonists are really a problem. Even supporting characters need to have personality.
But I have to admit that creating personalities is a challenge. It would be like doing a painting with watercolor. You need to dose each color and mix, so that it fits and looks interesting. So, you need to know how to measure personality characteristics in your mind when writing about a character. Furthermore, people are not like robots, which can literally be programmed to act in a certain way. There needs to be a flexibilization of the characteristics that you yourself determined in order for the character to be credible. In a large work, thinking about it is essential to keep the reader interested. In a short work, this is important to keep the author interested in his own work.

I hate when characters are already good at everything with no room for development. Also when a story only exists for a ship. I like romance but don't have it be the entire plot.
