I used to think human beings were competent, sensible, and intelligent, and knew what they were doing. It turns that I spend most days being surprised that the majority of people can get out of the house without accidentally skewering themselves on their own stupidity.

I used to think I could direct a Star Wars film, apparently I had no concept of copyright it seems. Such a sad excuse for a 4 year old. The first place I lived in, we had some big lights in the basement. I took a look at them and told my family I would film my own Star Wars movie. I watched the bonus features for the films to gain inspiration. Rest in Pleasance. You still can! You just have to direct other good movies first. lol I used to think human beings were competent, sensible, and intelligent, and knew what they were doing. It turns that I spend most days being surprised that the majority of people can get out of the house without accidentally skewering themselves on their own stupidity. Beat me to it. I thought the world was run by people who know what they're doing. Turns out, not so much. Half of them are stupider than me and I'm dumb as hell.

When I was younger I used to think that the ditches at the sides of the road were all dug by rabbits. I found out the truth when I remarked how lucky it was that rabbits did that: how useful for draining the water from the roads!

When I heard about monarch butterfly migration, I used to think that the same butterflies that traveled from Mexico to Canada were the same ones that returned from Canada to Mexico. But I recently discovered that migration actually takes place over 5 generations of butterflies, that is, on the way from Mexico to Canada, they die and it is the daughter butterflies that continue the journey. And then, on the trip back from Canada to Mexico, a single generation manages to make the trip back. I found this fascinating.

I was convinced that you don't close your eyes when you go to sleep, you have to wait for them to close automatically. This was caused by a children's prayer/poem thing that has the words in a weird order like poems do, so I thought it meant something like "I'm going to bed, please close my eyes" instead of "I'm going to bed and closing my eyes".

I think when I was younger I put a lot more emphasis on academics, passing tests and doing well in exams. Since I was good at that I figured I'd be fine.
As an adult I realise now that getting ahead in the world is actually a lot more about relationships, people skills/office politics and who you know.

Oh I had a similar thing for a while -- well, kind of the opposite actually: I was certain that in order to keep breathing, I had to think about it. I was really worried I'd just 'forget' to breathe and that would be the end of me lol. I was very very relieved when I realised I could do it automatically without having to think about it at all.

-That Grant's Pass was called Gramps' Pass -That my heart was shaped like a heart -That lava lamps actually contained lava -That the white spot on a killer whale was its eye -That hummingbirds don't have legs and literally have to fly 24/7 -That since girls peed and pooed sitting down and I knew boys peed standing up, that boys pooed standing up as well -That you got pregnant by someone touching your stomach. I wouldn't let my cat sit on my lap cause I thought I'd get pregnant with a human-cat hybrid

My mum used to have these tiny lipsticks which were just sample packs and I thought that's what lipsticks look like. When I saw a normal size lipstick much later I thought it was really weird. I still think the little ones would be really useful because I hardly ever wear any and I don't think I will ever finish a normal size one in my life, and even if I wore it more regularly I would like to try different shades instead of having to use the same one all the time. When I hear the word lipstick I still think of the mini ones, and then my brain takes a second to correct itself
