Green tones suit this book, I think.

Chapter 1: "Is it more beastly to be a murderer or to let one go free?"
I think this question drives the whole Lemony Snicket faction a lot. It's a very dangerous question, and apparently it's a question that comes up frequently with people directly involved with VFD. This question for "is it at least sometimes better to fight fire with fire even if it goes against our most fundamental moral principles"? Lemony demonstrated that for him the answer to that question is yes. That is the obligation of the noble. The point is that this way of thinking always leads to schisms. It's certainly what led to the Great Schism, and it's what led to Fernald starting a fire. And if you take revanchism into account, this way of thinking can lead to very long conflicts. And to avoid long conflicts, this way of thinking can lead to genocides.

Chapter 1: Now I have a mental image of a mop jumping off a roof. I’m already liking it better than ?3. Chapter 2: I like the descriptions of the staircase and all the floors. It’s always sad when a local business gets shuttered, no matter how uninteresting it is. The title of The Turn of the Screw sounds familiar? Is this some kind of Mandela Effect?

Chapter 3: Part of me kind of wants a book about Snicket’s excursion into the woods. Hey, a Beverly Cleary reference. Chapter 4: Could Gifford and Ghede be the Sinister Duo?If so, that’s kind of a bummer considering I’d already came up with names for them. I need to make myself that sandwich at some point.I’m low-key hooked on apricots at the moment. What sort of plan could Hangfire have that involve honeydew? Chapter 5: I “jaywalk” all the time.I didn’t know it was a crime. Lollipop Licket. That’s probably the only line of Stew Mitchum’s that’s remotely amusing.

Chapter 6: Why did Sally say she didn’t have a nephew at first? Interesting how we often hear about Kit but Jacques has been mentioned once in the whole series. Walleye, Pocket, and Eratosthenes has got to me one of the strangest combinations of names ever. Yeah, “because I said so” is an awful explanation. I love when chapters end on cliffhangers. Chapter 7: The fishbowl thing is one of the most creative comparisons ever.

Chapter 8: The coffee scene is weirdly wholesome. What does Hangfire want melons for? Chapter 9: I know the masked man in the grey suit is Hangfire, but I’m picturing Michael Myers. What does a voice that sounds like nothing sound like? Was it monotone or something? Lemony is actually starting to remind me a bit of Klaus. Chapter 10: Ellington playing dead actually had me fooled. I kind of want a scene of Lemony and Ellington in Winnipeg now.

Chapter 4: Moxie's plan reminds me a lot of Dewey's plan in TPP. I think DH left that clear by making a direct reference from the TPP title.

Chapter 11: As if I couldn’t hate Stew any more. Lemon Snickerdoodle makes me kind of hungry. Chapter 12: Ellington, I am your father. Chapter 13: It’s nice to get some backstory. Wow, a Josephine reference and Monty reference in the same sentence.

Final thoughts: Probably the best of the series, about on the same footing as 13SI.I was able to get more invested in the plot. Alright, onto ASOUE.
