I just received in the mail all three volumes of the Daily Punctilio booklets that came in Lunchables meals in 2004 as promotion for the film. Would people be interested in me scanning and uploading them here? As far I can tell, the complete text is nowhere to be found online, as opposed to The Dismal Dinner that can be read everywhere.

Will do. After reading them, my favorite discovery is a new Olaf disguise that I'm pretty sure has literally never been mentioned anywhere else?!

Here is Vol 1. I had to compress the file to attach it here but I have higher quality scans that I can make available elsewhere, should there be demand. DAILY PUNCTILIO Vol 1-compressed.pdf (392.76 KB)

Thank you for scanning those! I'm sure not much of it is canon, but I like their explanation for how Captain Sham's Sailboat Rentals was made.

Interestingly, all of the text is credited to Lemony Snicket so I'm pretty sure Daniel Handler was involved in these. But, I know what you mean re canon especially because the Punctilio's non-trustworthy nature is kind of its staple.

these are hilarious... something about the sensibilities of the film's promo material just feels so damn right to me. stolen boats? "trees are one of the most common sources of wood?" olaf writing for the paper?!?
the film's not great by any stretch of the imagination but one thing it nailed (and a reason i keep returning to it) is that it does an excellent job fleshing out the world of the series. the world of the baudelaires feels alive in that film in ways it doesn't on paper, or even in the netflix series. the movie manages to keep the baudelaires squarely in focus *while* showing how big and busy the world around them is. it really sells that feeling of being alone, which in turn sells the whole conceit of the series for thirteen whole books. how can the kids expect anything from adults when they're running headlines about what buildings are made of and advertising three hour movies about cartoon characters? they've gotta look out for one another, and i think the film justifies that beautifully. it's one of the few things that movie does beautifully, i'd say.
thanks for these mr. sharpe <3

Yes, Handler did write some of the Lunchables material according to an LA Times article which can be read here. This is why it's particularly surprising to me that, as interesting as The Dismal Dinner is, that was the only part of these promos that ever made their way online in their completion. The only glimpse of the Punctilio booklets previously seen was a transcription of Volume 2 on this site.
