So I am reading The Carnivorous Carnival and I am in the middle of Chapter Four…and man this book is a rough read so far and I MEAN A ROUGH READ.
I don’t like the idea of the Baudelaires having to disguise themselves as Carnival freaks and having to read about them failing to eat corn in front a cruel group of people and I don’t like reading about the other freaks getting made fun for circumstances they can’t help.
This is the first book in the series to really infuriate me and I know I’m only on Chapter Four and I hope the book gets much much better and I’d HATE to skip another book in the series and get out of sync in my reading, but so far, my impression of this book is that it may be a huge step down from THH (which I loved).

It's certainly uncomfortable, but asoue as a whole is about discomfort. I can mention equally or even more uncomfortable things about THH: like Klaus talking about ripping his sister's head off in public or wondering who changed Violet's clothes before surgery.

u know they're not real right Yes, but they’re is nothing wrong with getting emotionally attached to the characters and the books. After all, I got emotionally attached to Harry Potter and was crying by the end of the 7th book.

i disagree, i think that is bad. it can totally obfuscate your perception of artistic quality, and make you, for instance, not want to read TCC. (or make you think Deathly Hallows is good.)

You’re right, this is Lemony Snicket afterall, and I am reading the wrong book series if I want the books to make feel comfortable. I’m going to keep reading the book. And Deathly Hallows IS good (except for the epilogue). But to each their own.

I think it's supposed to be an "awful" read. Daniel Handler kept wanting the Baudelaires to experience hardship, and this book is very close to the final arc of the series so it has to challenge the Baudelaires even more. It needs to be a series of unfortunate events.

Moderator, if you would please lock this thread, I don’t want this thread to come off as a troll thread and I’m sorry if it did (God I sound like Jerome Squalor LOL).

I don't think it came off that way. Isadora Is a Door, I call upon your excellence once more.
