Sure, some people go to get the book right away and read all night. I go for the atmosphere and the fun.

I go for both! The atmosphere and fun is for while I'm waiting for the book and then once I get it I'm not approachable for 24 hours.

I took my time reading HBP. I didn't want to read too fast and skip over things. I always try to slow waaay down at really exciting parts cause i have a tendency to get too curious and just skip whole chunks on a page to see what happens next.

I'm trying to decide how I'm going to read it. Should I stay up and read all night? If I don't, I'll probably at least read most of the next day. The thing I'm most worried about is somehow getting spoiled by someone telling me what happens. I'll have to steer clear of this board until I'm finished, and probably be very careful about watching/reading the news too.

I'm definitely a stay-up-all-nighter. I've done that with all but the first book, which I bought before HP was so wildly popular. Thing is, it was the one I enjoyed most. Perhaps that was because I took my time reading it . . .
I only go to the midnight party because I can get the book early. There's no huge store like B&N or Borders near me, so I go to our very small local bookshop. Their party (and the accompanying givaways) is lame. I think last time they had broom races with the prize of a small paper sack of stickers and a store coupon.
Can't wait to see you as a Golden Snitch, GG!

I'm considering going, as I've never been to one. Anyone know which of these places has the best party?
Barnes & Noble Hastings Borders

We don't have Hastings around here, and each store probably varies in their level of involvement, but I went to both Border's and Barnes & Noble last time. (It helps that they were less than a mile apart.) I felt that Border's had the superior party by far. It was less crowded; the staff was more involved and into it; they had more activities. Face it, it's the same book at both stores. The price is pretty much the same. Might has well go to the better party.

I don't have much frame of reference, I've only ever been to a Border's party and I had fun with that. What I do is I dash through the book the first time, then reread it VERY carefully to catch anything I may have missed.

I've always heard that the Border's parties are better. Just from what I heard, though.

Then I guess I picked the right spot!

I guess you did.
I really want to go to a party. Although I would probably end up going to the Barnes and Nobles one if I did go--which I can't, but still--because I don't think my parents even know where or what Borders is... tsk, tsk. (And I have a bazillion dollars in Barnes and Nobles gift cards, so I could spend it all at B&N if I went).

Good idea. Your parents don't know what Borders is? I run out of bookstore gift cards way too fast, I can't remember when I last had one, I used to get them all the time.

We have a Borders down on the same road that Barnes & Nobles is on, but we've never gone in it, nor have we ever mentioned it.
I get them all the times--for my birthday, for Christmas, etc. But I also get books for my birthday--usually a ton. I think I got thirteen or so on my last birthday, plus four more from my birthday party--so I can never go out an buy any more books. I tell my parents to use my gift cards to buy some books, but I don't think they do.

THIRTEEN? You're so lucky. I borrow most of the books I'm now reading from the library. I'm reading more nonfiction nowadays. *anticipating the borders party already*

Yeah. Well, I'm lame. I love reading. I'm totally the opposite of my sister. She likes shopping for clothes, I like shopping for books.
I like some nonfiction. I think my favorite nonfiction was My Brother, My Sister, And I. I really liked that one. I like historical fiction more than nonfiction, though.
I went to Barnes & Nobles today, and I saw the Harry Potter Party posters hanging everywhere, I swear, I was dying. I want to go to a party so bad!
