I don't think H is Hector, unless the family tree is actually a representation of VFD instead of the Snicket family. It could be either; we can't really be sure. What confuses me is why the initials are in alphabetical order. Maybe they're not really all initials. G is not likely to be Gorgon, because I don't think Gorgon is really the name of a character. It's another name for the monster Medusa, used by Snicket as an example of terms for evil people. This is a Gorgon:

Wow, so Gorgon's not a person? Then what about Gronor? If u put the names of the cast members of Zombies in the snow together: Dolores, Young Rolf, and some other person, it anagrams out to, Gronor get Olaf your sled. So who's Gronor? And what about Quisling? If that H isn't Hector than who is it?

It's been suggested that Gronor is some ally of Olaf, apparently a professional sled-getting henchman. However, I'm not sure if the anagram of "Dolores, Young Rolf, Gerta" really means anything. As for H, it might or might not be Hector. We don't know exactly what the family tree represents.

Ok then... Amazing how many answers you come up with. But then what about Quisling? Is that a person or just a capitalized word? Will Lemony Snicket ever appear in the series? Does the mill treat its employees better now? It's illegal to pay employees in coupons.. Is prufrock closed by the time tss took place?

Ok then... Amazing how many answers you come up with. But then what about Quisling? Is that a person or just a capitalized word? Quisling was the name of a famous traitor; like Benedict Arnold it's become a general term for traitors. I'll have to do more research and I'm glad to be of help to you, Jacques. He's becoming more and more of a character, telling his own story as he records that of the children. So you could say that he's already part of the series, but he'll probably be directly involved in the very end. I certainly hope so, but I find myself wondering if Paltryville has an entirely coupon-based economy. The lumbermill seems to be the only real business in town, so it seems that Paltryville thrives on wood, gum, and coupons. Either that, or Carmelita was on a vacation of some sort when she joined the Scouts.

ah ok. So Quisling and Gorgon aren't actual people... I thought the vfd tree was of people in vfd but also showed their ancestry. So Olaf killed his cousin! Bad olaf.... where was the quagmire dad during the fire? The quagmire mom was mentioned and so were duncan and isadora(still wondering how the last 2 got out, and why the mom never brought them to the secret passage... If someone throws a torch into a window, surely the fire won't spread that fast... There's gotta be some way to stop it when it's just a tiny torch fire.

And what about Quisling? If that H isn't Hector than who is it? Well, it MIGHT be Hal, but he wouldn't let the Baudelaires see the Snicket file, and he ran them down.....so, guess not. But, uh, if you've noticed in the V.F.D Transcript, all the letters there, usually have a duplicate(sp?) of themselves. Like, two J's, two L's, you see my point. so....in the V.F.D Transcript, there is a G, I was thinking it was Geraldine, who later turned to the bad side, and went on TDP, but then she'd know that Esme really wasn't an actress, but the G is Gustav. So I'm guessing Gustav is the G on the family tree. But about Quisling? I really don't know if there's gonna be a person named that in ASOUE later books, but Lemony could just be using the word quisling, for traitor. Either someone on the bad side will be a traitor, or someone that WAS on the good side, turned into a traitor for the bad side. Possibly someone Lemony was close to. I really have no clue.

I think the father was the first to die. He must have told the others to escape without him or something similarly melodramatic. Isadora and Duncan must have gotten out a window which then became inaccessible for some reason. I imagine that Olaf uses large torches, the type carried by angry mobs. Maybe he uses a lot of lighter fluid at some step in the arson process. I don't know much about arson, honestly.

Oh yeah.... Completely forgot about gustav. But if the H on the tree is Hector than that means that Chas Snicket was once the village handyman. I still wonder how they can expect Hector to be a handyman without any tools.... Who is the leader of the council of elders? were the rules made up in order? Because Hector said he was there for the forming of rule 108, so if they did make them in order, than they made up 19.000 some rules in Hector's lifetime.

Maybe Hector is some sort of special trusted person, the only one allowed to touch the Sacred Forbidden Mechanical Items. As for the 19000 some-odd rules, I think that the current council members are just really big on the creation of absurd rules, much more so than their predecessors(whoever those were.) I also wonder if the town had a mayor, and if everyone writes only in pencil because the rules prevent them from using pens.

The rules preventing pen use are 19 and 34(please don't ask why I remember these rules) so they must be pretty important.

Don't blame him, blame the town elders and their crow-favoring rules. In the village, you can only use pens made from crow feathers, but you can't make anything from crow feathers. So, I guess the townsfolk all use pencils.
