Today my French teacher who only speaks French and English called us bambini.
On a telephone pole someone had written "Olaf was here" with a copy of the VFD insignia under it.

I've read And Then There Were None. It's my favorite Agatha Christie.
Today, I gave my ASOUE essay into my English teacher, in order for him to determine whether I was rambling or not. He took one look at it, and said "What is his real name again?" I replied, "Daniel Handler" He said, "Ah, that's right."

In my lit class we're reading a story by Nathaniel Hawthorne, whose name Mr. Poe once used in a series of religious exclamations("Holy God! Zeus and Hera! Nathaniel Hawthorne!" or something like that). The story is called "The Birthmark" and involves a character named Georgiana, a name not unlike Georgina.
Also, I have recently acquired a book called "Amphigorey Also", a collection of Edward Gorey's works. It includes "The Blue Aspic", a favorite of Handler's. There's also a verse called "The Eclectic Abecedarium" which has the lines "There is an Eye/Up in the sky".

My friend Karalee is constantly amazed about how there is a Dupin in ASOUE and a Dupin in an Edgar Allen Poe story.
Has anyone else seen the What Not To Wear $50, 000 commercial? Stacy is wearing a ridiculously floofy dress similar to Esmé's fire dress, and Clinton is wearing a suit. They are both in a money print. I took one look at it in passing, and went "They are SO Olaf and Esmé!"
Edit: December 1st.
I asked Mr. Moore, finally! Before I was to hand in a cheque for the Britain trip, I asked him: Me: Well young lady, have you been good to your mother? Him: What? Me: *repeats* Him: Yes, I have. That chucks him off the Volunteer-scale. Hm.

Yes, The Blue Aspic is wonderful, though my favorite (from this collection) The Awdrey-Gore Legacy. Have you read The Green Beads? That story is sad, in my opinion. It also should be noted that Edaward Gorey uses anagrams og his name for various stories. For example: D. Awdrey-Gore, E. G. Deadworry and his grandfather, G. E. Deadworry, Dogear Wryde, Ogdred Weary, and probably some others I'm missing.

The Green Beads is of some interest because it contains a person whose gender is uncertain--but who turns out to be female. And the Awdrey-Gore Legacy is very Snickety--certainly a part of Handler's inspiration.
There's also a verse called "The Apoplectic Bicycle", which contains something related to The Basic Eight, Handler's adult novel. It has the line "Embley and Yewbert were on the field, hitting each other with croquet mallets". (In TB8, the main character *Spoiler alert* commits murder with a croquet mallet)

That sounds vaguely related to Voluntary Fish Domestication.
Speaking of salmon, I had some for dinner last night, and my mother bought a tube of wasabi at the market, because I want to try it.

A girl I know claims to know the real L.Snicket and that his name is not really Daniel Handler. That it is yet another nom de plume or perhaps nom de guerre. She also said that he played accordian on a Magnetic Fields album. I have yet to find out whether or not this is true.

Daniel Handler has played accordian, and occasionally keyboards on a Magnetic Fields album, yes. <#

I was at a book fair thingy at my old school, and they had this eraser with and eye on fire on it. I found it interesting.

But it WOULD be like Handler to call himself Snicket, and then invent ANOTHER pseydonym as his real name. Too bad it isn't true.

In my lit class I'm now reading The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, and sometime later we're going to read Moby Dick. I started reading The Confidence Man a while ago, but haven't finished it--it's pretty confusing.
Yesterday, I tried some wasabi, and it's quite strong. I prefer white horseradish.

My teacher looks a lot like count olaf... Describe him? Today Mr. Moore asked us who a Gorgon was, and I answered his question. The other day we learned about "Dues Ex Machinas". I found a jar of horseradish in my fridge. I like wasabi better.
