That conjures up some hilarious images. I can just imagine the Hogwarts staff smoking pot in the dungeons. ;D

Adultery is off limits, but murder, arson, kidnapping and bad hygeine are fair game? . C: Kids pretty much get that in an average cartoon, y'know, Tom and Jerry, etc. Violence is OK, but anything sexual is usually off limits.

I like it, as it makes the adult characters more, well, adult. Like it or not, that's the way a lot of relationships end. Plus, it's great fanfiction material.

Snicket's villains just do their own thing. they're not bothered by being in a children's book.
Olaf is a 'distant' reletive, possibly by marriage, and I suspect he was just going to kill lock Violet up somewhere a la Bronte Sisters, anyway, until she came of age and could be offed for the cash. Only the hook handed man seems to have any interest in Violet. I think the scariest bit was when she was unconscious in the Hostile Hospital.
Anyway, Jerome and Esmè only knew each other a day before they were married, right? And Jerome doesnt want to argue, so I'm sure he's fine with her being absent, having a boyfriend etc. He'd probably let her have everything in any divorce settlement, anyway.
To Kill a Mockingbird is still banned in some places because of racial and racist terms. Same goes for The Catcher in the Rye. book burners leap on one thing, like language or supernatural content, and ignore the rest of the peice. Um, excuse me? Violet got out of the marriage. The boy got psychological help. TKAMB is a story about the evils of prejudice. In context, these are all good books. Myeh.

I think you might be thinking of Flacutono, the bald man. He was the one who was talking about Violet's "pretty face" and compared her to Sleeping Beauty in HH. Lucafont knew his boundaries, as evidenced in the "I know she's yours" conversation in BB. And yeah, it does seem like Handlers' villains are off in a world by their own. They openly defy the unwritten laws of childrens' books the same way they openly defy the written laws of their own world.

I'm not bothered by any kind of adultery, just the reasons behind said adultery. Anyway I can't see why Esme would be bothered or why it would matter since the marriage wasn't real on her part anyway. If she doesn't care about him she has no qualms about using him or cheating on him. The marriage was just a another scheme to get her way. She probably doesn't consider it cheating. The adultery isn't the part she'd feel guilty about if she decided to start feeling guilty it would probably be that she married him in the first place.

Honestly, I'm not doing anything wrong if I read books about adultery, or murder, or anything else, because it doesn't exist. And I think children will notice the incest and stuff only when they are pointed out or if they already knew about it in the first place.
And about the d**n in TRR. teaches kids not to use the word. And if you really want to argue, how come no one's alarmed at the d**ns in Harry Potter 4? It was said I think four times and they haven't even reached Hogwarts yet.

Sorry I didnt mean to change the subject. I really do love the A Series of Unfortunate Events. Here I'll even switch the topic back. Do you think Esme will get back together with Jarome? I mean if things dont go well with Olaf, do you think Jarome will accept her apology? I mean, he doesn't like to argue. *Izzie- with Strike 1*

Actually, I think she might. If Olaf ends up dying or in a bind or something, she just might end up fleeing the proverbial sinking ship and running back to Jerome, where she has security. And I think he'd gladly take her back, because he's pretty spineless.
Charles/Jerome would, therefore, be the perfect couple.
