Ok, this is a porblem that has been irking me ever since I read the Miserable Mill. FIrst let me say, the MM was by far my least favorite book of the series, it almost made me stop reading. Now anyway...
Why exactly were the Baudelaire's sent to life at a lumber mill. Nevermind the fact that the will states they must live with a relative, but assuming that nobody esle wants them, it still doesn't explain Sir. Why would Mr. Poe arrange for them to stay with some random man who didn't particularly want them other than as employees? Especially since he lives in another town, it's not exactly convienient. I can understand going to a boarding school, a parent's friends, or even a village, but why Sir? WHo is he? Let's discuss.

It's generally assumed that he's a relation, although what his connection is has never been stated. I was once sure that it said in TMM that he was a cousin, but I re-read it and couldn't find it.

we are thinking that maybe sir is a member of VFD and we also think that mr poe knows about VFD but does not want to allow the children to know about it.
