In TMM, isn't it odd that Dr Orwell is referred to both a man and a woman?
Like Violet says 'him'
and it turns out to be a girl?
I read it twice before I was not confused anymore. Before, I couldn't decide which gender Orwell was...just something funny I thought I'd post.

That's just because Violet assumed that the doctor was a man, which is an assumption a lot of people would make if they didn't know better, frankly. (Although the matter of subconcious sexism fits better in Disturbing Discussion than here.)

If I recall correctly, I think everyone (the Baudelaires and possibly Charles) assumed that Dr. Orwell was male, but then she turned out to be female. I guess it's slightly unsettling to have a supposed given like that turn out false, which prepares the reader for Dr. Orwell's rather sinister true colours.

Yeah. I didn't even think about any of that. I just so confused when reading it for the first time. I seriously had to skim back and figure out if I had missed something.
EDIT: Dante--Orwell did creep me out...and I couldn't think of why...but maybe this is the answer! My epiphany...well your idea that led to mine...but...

Every good series needs an evil, transgender doctor. EVERY good series.
