My Great Aunt Mae was married and had her first child at age 13.
but that's neither here nor there...
You can also be related in odd ways....for example, my mother and her sister married my father and his first cousin....hense something innocent becomes sorta complicated...my Second cousin is my Uncle as well...and his children are my first and third cousins.. merely by the ties of blood and marriage...so Olaf and Violet may have not been "Blood kin" it may gave been a cousin by marriage and hense..not quiet as weird as it seems.

Unless he fiddled with the will so he got the dosh. Precisely what I think. I'm surprised nobody noticed anything odd if the will was tampered with: 4th cousin 3 times removed/3rd cousin 4 times removed is so incredibly distant nobody would even think about him. And if all the others in line got killed, people would have good reason to be suspicious. There's an idea; Fake Olaf kills real Olaf, creeps into Bauldelaire mansion, takes the two Bauldelaire parents completely by surprise and knock them out, then ties them up, type out a new will on a typewriter (having destroyed the old one if required) then sneak it into the place of the old one. Get back to the mansion before the Bauldelaires return, set fire to everything, creep back home before the fire department/V.F.D show up and start asking awkward questions. And, he might have had a swig out of Mr Bauldelaire's brandy flask.

I think their relationship is probably just part of the VFD thing.

I feel silly quoting myself BUT DFV look.. I commented on your theory! What am I chopped liver? and if you are indeed chopped liver, will you be required to be inspected before you may be offered for public consumption?

[glow=red,2,300]TEXT[/glow] For my opinion it is really gross how Count Olaf wants to marry his own cousin! But he tried to do it to get the family fortune![glow=red,2,300]TEXT[/glow]

shows what desperate people will do for money. back to are olaf and the bauladelaires related. third cousin would be there cousins grandson/daughter so he was probably married to there third cousins four times which would explain the removed bit

I don't think they are really related, but if they are it isn't unusal for cousins that many times removed to get married. I think that's actually legal.. though gross [glow=pink,2,300]it is legal...but wut exactly is a 3rd cousin? wut is a 3rd cousin twice removed? the connection is slim, so it's not gross. [/glow]

there is reason to believe that olaf paid someone of in order 2 pretend like he was related to them so he culd get the fortune, which was in part of his scheme when he burned down the bauds house

[glow=red,2,300]i disagree, i dont think he burned down the bauds house at all, but i belive he fiddled someway to get into the family, if he was the closest geographically, as im sure it says sumwhere in the story, why didnt he ever visit the baudelaires at their mansion, surely he would have been interested in the fortune so i do see a logic in ur thought that he burned down the house, but i doubt it. As soon as he herd that the bauds were under his control, he knew the money was his str8 away.
What do you guys think??[/glow]

He couldn't have visited them because he probably "wasn't welcome"there, because of the schism.I do think he's related to them, but I also think he tampered with the will to get the kids, and therefore, their money.
