I was reading TWW and noticed that Captain Sham's motto was "Every ship has its own Sail." The motto of the Prospero for VFD members is "Every ship has its own Schedule." Is this some sort of VFD code? (I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, I'm new.)

It simply is another piece of evidence that the Captain of the Prospero is the real Julio Sham, whose slogan Olaf tried to mimic while disguised as him...
All my posts at the mo seem to be about the fact that Julio Sham is real. Well, so be it, because he is...

Maybe Captain Sham was thrown overboard(I) by Olaf while on the Prospero, waiting for Lemony.

However, the person writing to Lemony said that he'd be disguised as Captain S, but curiously enough he signs the letter with that name. "Captain S, aka J." I suppose that if this is the real Julio Sham, Sham isn't his real last name. Bewildering.

Maybe Julio Sham is in diguise as someone called S. Or S is disguised as Julio Sham. I'm getting confused.

Let's see, how common could Sham be as a non-fraudelent last name? (Commoner than Anwhistle at least). Maybe it is indeed J, disguised as Captain S. What other clues are there that we can examine?

Supposing Julio Sham was thrown overboard the Prospero (I), by Olaf, then perhaps he could have found the submarine underwater, where the Baudelaire's will find him, and get confused with initials...?

J: I think Lemony left is as a clue or hint or summink to show that the two boats were...uh...nevermind. C: J's having trouble with words again.

Maybe Julio Sham is J's real name. Then in order to not be found out by the enemies on the ship, who are disguising themselves as passengers and seagulls, he creates the name Captain S. to wave suspicion. And if Olaf unveils his disguise and throws Julio into the water, Julio could swim to safety and then find the VFD, then get the sub and go searching for a sugar bowl.

Maybe Captain Sham was thrown overboard(I) by Olaf while on the Prospero, waiting for Lemony. That's probably it, exactly. I mean, why would they put an (I) thrown overboard part, if no one had been THROWN OVERBOARD? Gosh, I never thought of that...

I think this is totally wrong but maybe Julio Sham is not really him, just a cover up name. Maybe Julio is actually Jaques pretending to be him. ARGH, I really think that is wrong. Screw that theory.
