It comes from a Greek myth. Look it up. Something about how Damocles said something to the king that made him out to be a happy ruler, and the king showed Damocles how happy it really was by making him sit under a downward-pointing sword suspended from a thread. Geez, I think that ~I~ need to look it up!

Wow, that is interesting. However, I think we all knew that the story was going to get worse after all the series is called A Series of UNFORTUNATE Events..lol....
Also, The_Violet_Baudelaire, I like your whole idea on the Sword pointing at Violet, but I don't think the pictures would fore shadow that far....but you never know. I think the Sword was just referring to the coming disasters of TWW that if it actually was suppose to symbolize something. I love theory though I never would have thought of that! Good Job!
