I think the main difference between Harry Potter and ASOUE is how the reader feels about what's going on. Most literature for readers 10-14 is all about creating a world the readers want to be a part of, that's better than their real life. For instance, when I was that age (I'm now 24), the books I read were about kids who had cool clothes and cool friends and did cool things, and I wanted to be just like them. I think Harry Potter is a bit like that, kids can fantasize that they can do magic and stick it to the grown ups, etc. But with ASOUE, you don't want to BE the characters or be in that depressing world, you're just a bit worried about what will happen to the characters, and you really want to unravel this huge mystery. Anyway, the ASOUE approach is really unusual, and I like it better. (Having said that, I only read the first Harry Potter book. I wasn't that crazy about it, and never had an urge to read the second.)

First of all it's great to be near a computer again! Staying in that thing was terrible... no pencil sharpener! Honestly my commonplace book is a mess! Any ways I've never had Agent A's talent for hiding... Secondly... Series all the way. I mean come on, Snicket is so much more original in his ideas. There are plenty of books about wizzards (Pratchet spelling, another good series) But about the VFD? I mean hardly anyone even knows about us. Now of course plenty of people know but no one believes. I find it quite amusing. If you'll excuse me now I have a meeting to make with Agent M... GUH! It's going to take forever to clean this gunk off my hat...

<Incoming transmission...> <Transmission received.> <Open? (Y/N): Y>
Hey K! It's good to hear you're no longer incommunicado. I need a report ASAP, to forward on to A. You're right, we need to get together for a meeting soon. Dang it... I'll be right back, the phone is ringing.
On to the topic. I would go for Snicket. On a Monday I received the first book; next day I had to meet my contact for the second. Each day she would bring me the next one in exchange for the last. Reading them at one per day, I finished them in two weeks. Only the Unauthorized Autobiography took longer. These books never seem to get old. Conversely, the last Harry Potter book didn't really seem to bridge the gap between story and reader. The ASoUE books always bring new things to each reading, as well.
K, I need your presence here soon. Come quickly. I have dire news to report.
My ringing phone calls me away once more. I hope to see you soon, K.
<End transmission.>

[glow=red,2,300]Handler/Snicket. I like Harry books, too, but now she is taking a year off and by the time the sixth book comes out I'll be an old lady! lol. She is good, but know JK Rowling is running out of ideas...Lemony is better[/glow]

[glow=red,2,300]You click the G button on Add tags: near the top. It says stuff with TEXT in caps in the middle. You delete the word TEXT but keep the other stuff and type in between it. Also, you can change the color. Watch:[/glow]

I picked Snicket because his books are so much more suspensful and interesting. But I am still a HP fan, I just like ASOUE better, theres so much more to it

It's hard for me to decide. Handler's/Snicket's style of writing is more humerous. yet I love HP. I chose by writing. Rowling's writing is truly nothing special. Her plot was what was holding her up.

I didn't vote.Mainly because I prefer the fanfics of both series to the actual books themseleves.
