I don't mean to discourage this endeavor because I think you all deserve a nod from Snicket. However, I think Gigi is in the right ballpark. I don't expect this auction to close at less than $1000. One final note-- Paypal can certainly be used for gathering funds. You select someone to be the recipient and everyone sends funds to them. A couple things to be aware of: - That person should have a business paypal account to accept that much money. Otherwise there's a hard limit as to what you can receive and it's much lower than what I expect this auction to cost. - Paypal takes a fee off the top for money received in business accounts...I believe it's 1% or so. If you say you're going to contribute $20, you'll have to actually send $20.20 to cover that fee. I did a little more research on Paypal. 1. It turns out I already have a business account. I have a Premier account which is the same thing. 2. I can accept up to $1000 into my account. 3. Paypal can handle overseas currency. Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, British pounds sterling, Euros. The convert the currency along with a fee. Example: 20 GBP would cost 20.98 20 Australian dollar would cost 21.18 4. Fees for $US are 2.9%+$0.30 so $20 would cost $20.88. 5. Paypal is just as safe as any reliable online merchant. You can use a credit card and you are protected under that card's terms. Just some information to think about.

I like Minniver Sussex Fox OK too, but one advantage to sixsixsevenforum is that it will bring a lot of attention to this forum. Readers everywhere would google sixsixseven forum. Other websites that define Sunny speak would have to write what sixsixsevenforum is. I think it would be proof that we are the greatest Snicket forum and it would be interesting to see what Handler would say about us or define us as. But I would still contribute if Minniver Sussex Fox is chosen.

Just a note: In order to form a perfect anagram, "Miniver" should have one letter n, because there's only one n in "sixsixsevenforum."

However, googling 667 forum works, and your point about other websites defining Sunny speak stands. I will probably not be able to participate, but I'm definitely cheering us on if we do it.

I would be able to send money by "snail mail" but not online. :-(
I like Miniver Sussex Fox. It applies to everyone here, it will be an inside joke to us and it does sound like a real name so we won't be breaking any rules.
I'm going to start a "How much" thread in The Gloom Looms for people who can contribute.

Before we start such a thread, I think we need to set some ground rules about commitment. I was going to write something up and post later this morning. Can you wait?

I've already made it. Sorry. Edit: I've told everyone not to post in it.

Hmm...up to $1000. So, if the bidding goes higher, once again, we're kind of screwed.
Sixteen, surely your parents have a credit card even if you don't? Won't they allow you to pay them cash, and then use their credit card to donate money to this?

I discussed this with my Mother, and she says that when the time comes she'd be willing to give ten dollars. However, I could contribute more; I'd be willing to give another ten or so.

I don't know what's with this whole sending cash scheme. I mean, people aren't going to mail money from Australia to the U.S., and even if they were, there wouldn't be time. Isn't there a way you can pool money online? If I was to participate I probably would mail money from Australia to the US. My parents aren't very trusting of computers in general and severely dislike giving credit card details anywhere. Though with the money changing it might be wiser to check exchange rates in different countries if we are going with the every dollar counts theory.

I think this is a very good idea, if it's going to work as well as we've planned it.
I'll definitely tell you the amount I'm contributing by tomorrow.

No. They don't want to use their credit card on something "useless and unimportant". What?! Useless and unimportant?! Don't they realize the cultural significance that Lemony Snicket has?
