I bought the recent book Daniel Handler The Real Lemony Snicket for my school library (and to satisfy everybody's curiosity about the book). I promised to scan the pictures and post them. As I said before in Gloom Looms, I was very disappointed with this book. I was hoping for pictures of DH as a boy and there weren't any. Most of the pictures appear to be taken on the same day at a book signing because he is wearing the same tie and yellow shirt. I did not scan all of the pictures in the book. Some were just photos of kids waiting to meet DH. Many were photos from the movie which you can get anywhere online. I uploaded the pictures to my photo album. You can view them at dgrune.tripod.com/ASOUE. As for the book itself, it was a great disappointment. The actual meat of the book (minus index, table of contents, etc.) was only 32 pages long with pictures. Any of us or anyone with Internet access could have written this book. It offered little insight into Daniel Handler's life or childhood. (Although there were a few passages about his childhood that I want to type up later.) The only real nugget of new (to me anyway) information I found was that he was the valedictorian of his high school graduating class.

Thanks for the scans. While the book itself sounds pretty disappointing, the pictures were cool.
I hope someone will eventually write a more comprehensive Handler biography; Handler's an interesting man.

The pictures were pretty cool...but not all that satisfactory.
Anyway, I agree that a comprehensive, all-you-want-to-know biography type thing. I guess he's like a shadow; you can't really get to know him...

Thanks, Gigi. I really enjoyed the pictures. I'm dissapointed that it wasn't a better book. I wonder if Handler even knew that this book was written about him, like a sort of unofficial thing?

Although it didn't proclaim to be the "Official Biography", I think it was written with his knowledge. I think he is just very private about his personal life. For instance, the book mentions his son, but never gives his name.
If an official biography ever comes out, I think it will be after all 13 books have been out for a while.
Question: Is the man in the photo with the Olaf drawing Brett Helquist? It's hard to tell from that angle, but I think it is. I seem to remember someone posting about going to a book signing (for TGG?) and Brett was there doing a Count Olaf drawing.

I wonder if an official autobiography would mainly focus on his work as Snicket, or if it would be more general?
Anyway, thanks for scanning the pictures. Shame the book was such a let-down, but that's generally the case with supplementary books written by different authors.
