I scanned this review of Adverbs from the most recent Entertainment Weekly. A rather negative review, but it does make the book sound pretty interesting. I liked the photo of young Daniel Handler(possibly 11 or 12) too.

I'm looking forward to the book's release. It's always interesting to read his other work, besides ASOUE. (Too bad EW doesn't have the review on their site yet. I assume that is the latest issue, right?)

The review doesn't paint too good a picture, but the details it gives about the book make it sound more interesting to me than it did before. And it's interesting to see a younger Handler, too.

I ordered it from Amazon and hope it gets here on the release date or the day after. I think it looks good. I would have had a crush on DH in 1982. (Not that I don't now.)

I quite liked the description; sad that it only got a C+.
I really should order this now, and weed out my Amazon cart (I have far more stuff in there than I can buy.)

Stupid library!! I had the first hold on Adverbs, but they lent it out to someone already. Grrrr. Now I'll have to wait another week.

What? But I thought it only came out two days from now?

What? But I thought it only came out two days from now? Eh, retailers and libraries and stuff often get books ahead of time through the ol' grey market. Or by just selling early to grab more cash. I'm guessing it's how most of those kids who splash spoilers over the Internet get their early information. And, as a rule, it's always more annoying when it happens to somebody other than you.

The inside cover of the book sounds a lot better than EW made it seem.
"Adverbs is a novel about love- a bunch of differant people, in and out of differant kinds of love. At the start of the novel, Andrea is in love with David- or maybe it's Joe- who instaead falls in love with Peter in a taxi. At the end of the novel it's Joe who's in the taxi falling in love with Andrea, although it might not be Andrea, or in any case it might not be the same Andrea, as Andrea is a very common name. So is Allison, who is married to Adrian in the middle of the novel, although in the middle of the ocean she considers a fling with Keith and also with Steve, whom she meets in an automobile, unless it's not the same Allison who meets the Snow Queen in a casino, or the same Steve who meets Eddie in the middle of the forest... It might sound confusing, but thats love, and as the author- me- says, 'It is not the nouns. The miracle is the adverbs, the way things are done.' This novel is about people trying to find love in the ways it is done before the volcano erupts and the miracle ends. Yes, there's a volcano in the novel. In my opinion a volcano automatically mades a story more interesting."

Heh. I love the volcano thing.
I just ordered this from Amazon. Hopefully it arrives soon.
