In Spanish, I think "vos" is the possessive form of "vosotros" which means "you-all". I'm not entirely sure because we never really studied this tense in my Spanish class on the grounds that it's only used in Spain.

about the novel, apparently the main character goes to south america and meets his soon to be love after getting a snake bite. as peru is LOCATED in south america and perhaps the snake bit has something to do with uncle monty's snake collection. also, the reason the man in the novel went to south america in the first place is because of seeking revenge for something...I'm not really sure what... but then it was also made into a movie later on with audrey hepburn in it... I think that there really are clues and/or explanations in that book and/or the movie...

Oh, I read this novel a while ago. I liked it quite a lot.
Does anyone know what the urn inscription means? "Sin vos y siu dios y mi." With my small bit of Spanish I guess something along the lines of "Without you and without God and mine," but I have a feeling that is not quite accurate.

I figured out the inscription as"Without your(plural) and your/his/her God and mine", or in short,"Without our God". The word "siu" won't seem to translate, so it could be a misspelling of "su" which is the Spanish third-person possessive, or the possessive pronoun for the formal "you".

well, the green mansion did not really help them out much, did it? perhaps they had some other meaning besides the arson-prevention. maybe they were just easier to find..that is why it mentions in the transcript that they stopped paintiong them green, they were too easy to find.

Perhaps it's not the green wood that's what's important, but what it represents; the idea of a resistance to fire. And that's why they painted buildings green as well, because it recalled the green wood; it was the idea of the green wood that mattered, it's what the colour meant to the organisation.
Edit: Could also have served as a way of identifying the homes of fellow volunteers, in happier times, before the schism. But then suddenly the colour became a danger, so more and more often they had to use something else.

If the mansions are made of green wood then why did the headquarters in Mortmain Mountains burn? (Please consider the climate. It's COLD)

Well, green wood would still burn, just not very well, until it had dried out. Mansions made of wood that's just painted green would burn like fun. The Hotel Denouement has green wooden floors, and that wasn't immune to arson. And the Mortmain Mountains headquarters might have been built after V.F.D. had stopped using green wood.
