-the little snicket lad-
is vfd good or bad??? i mean, they steal little kids and make them involuntary volunteers(aka slaves!). you've got to admit that's not very nice! plus, lemony's the one they took, so why are (were in one case) his(older???) siblings volunteers?

They ask permission from the parents before they take the children. And Lemony's commentary on the song makes it sound like his elder siblings were taken on the same day.
And besides, after the schism, taking children away before their homes could be burnt down was probably a good thing.

It seems that After the schism every new volenteer hs had their parents killed in some way.

*Spoiler*
With the exception from of Count Olaf and his parents being killed by Posion Darts, and then he causes the arson which makes the Denouments orphans, weird strange chain of events.

Both sides have to be part of the schism because a schism is when an organization is split into to or more different groups due to an argument.

However, it looks like noble people who aren't members of V.F.D. have also been helping their cause. Similarly, you don't have to have been a member of V.F.D. to be unhelpful, rude, or an arsonist.

Yes, it's worth pointing out that non-VFDers, such as Jerome, can be friends of VFD members, such as Jacques. And people clueless about VFD can be very unpleasant.

You know that is kind of evil...I mean supposing VFD stands for Volunteer Fire Department, the children arn't really volunteering to be a part of this noble cause, their parents are volunteering them....And is dragging the children away be their ankles really neccessary? Imagine the carpet burns

That's just the tradition of a semi-secret organisation, and everyone knows that the traditions of semi-secret organisations require you to endure pain and humiliation.

Grabbing them by the ankles could be preparing the young skin for geting a tatoo.

The general discomfort(not to mention emotional stress) of being dragged off could prepare the young volunteers for the rigors of volunteer missions.

I do not know. That's a strange way for one to travel, tho......

what if a person always traveled by being carried upside down on their ankles? They would call us weird for using a car...
Anyways Yes it kinda seems that if you come in contact with a V.F.D.er you become sorted into a catagory.
