Based on pp. 121-131 of LSOE, here are some people who didn't die in the Hotel Denouement fire (alas):
1) Mrs. Bass - she has to be arrested for bank robbery.
2) Mr. Remora - he has to choke on a banana and retire.
3) Vice Principal Nero - he has to write this letter.
4) Carmelita Spats - she returns to the school.
Also: Kit Snicket will probably not die in the next book (she has not yet become a teacher and recuited two orphans, since that must happen close to the same time as all of the above).
Additional notes:
If Kit is in the photo on p. 142 ("Will I ever see her again?") then she no longer appears pregnant. Perhaps she has given birth by this time.
If Carmelita is back at school, she may be present in the picture, too. I think she is the girl in the front row in the white dress with a bow on her head. Someone has labeled her with the word "Cad," which can mean "a morally reprehensible person."

I was thinking that possibly Mr. Remora had already retired, and was just invited with the other Prufrock teachers. Since Kit stole the children before Mrs. Bass was arrested (she was just casing the joint at the time), then this would avoid any possible chronological inconsistencies with the next book, as the orphans' recruitment would have happened prior to TPP. This would still require Mrs. Bass to survive, but the rest of them could die, and it would avoid a possible chronological inconsistency (and allows several more characters to perish in the Hotel Denouement arson).
My rough timeline:
1. Mr. Remora chokes on a banana and retires. 2. Ms. K. replaces him. 3. Mrs. Bass starts spending a lot of time at the bank. 4. The Spats parents complain about Ms. K.'s teaching style. 5. Ms. K. steals the two orphans. 6. Mrs. Bass robs the bank. 7. Nero, Bass, and Remora are all invited to Hotel Denouement, for various reasons. 8. TPP occurs. 9. Mrs. Bass at least escapes, but is arrested for bank robbery. 10. Prufrock Prep. closes.
[Carmelita would leave Prufrock Prep. somewhere between 5 and 7.]

One problem with that chronology is that Mrs. Bass claims her turning to a life of crime was motivated by wanting to bring valuables to the party celebrating the metric system (p. 131). Since the invitations could only have been issued Monday evening at the earliest (when Olaf changed his plans about burning down the hotel), there simply isn't time for Kit to have become a teacher to replace the now-bank-obsessed Bass. Kit already had plenty to do anyway: helping Quigley, setting up the concierge jobs for the Baudelaires, etc.
Mrs. Bass could be lying. I suspect she was already tempted by bank robbery long before the invitation. She seems to have collected blueprints of them, which would also take time (p. 281).
Addendum: More of Kit's time immediately before this book is accounted for if we believe her story that she took to her bed after she got the news of Jacque's death (end of TVV) until Quigley reported spotting the Baudelaires in the Mortmain Mountains (end of TSS). (pp. 30-31) That basically leaves the end of TAA to the end of TVV for her teaching adventures. I still think it fits in better after TPP.

I thought maybe Kit became a teacher after the baudilaires left ... well a little while after but allowing kit to snach to other orphans and look for more information on the baudilares. It's weird that everyone is chasing them isn't it?

It's possible to fit Kit's teacher job in soon after the Baudelaires leave. All that needed to happen is that Mrs. Bass started spending a lot of time at the bank. If she wasn't planning a robbery then she might be doing something else, like measuring the walls with a metric ruler.

When I read UA, I had the feeling it was written years after, but it could've been years before. I didn't get the impression it was anytime near the series, but I've been known to be wrong.

Is the book out yet? If not, when does it? *curious*

Which book? Book the Twelfth has been out for more than a month, Book the Thirteenth won't be out for a bit less than a year, and the U.A. has been out for multiple years.

I also think Poe is another person that didn't die in the Hotel D fire.

Why do you think that? He seemed pretty determined to stay.

Mr Poe is so excruciatingly annoying and ineffectual, it's impossible for him NOT to die.
