Has anyone noticed how loaded with Melville references the Prospero is?
1) White Jacket Lounge: White-Jacket is a Melville novel.
2) Redburn Ballroom: Redburn is another Melville novel.
3) Typee Shuffleboard Court: Typee, another Melville novel.
Then comes The Confidence Man for the decks:
4) Ringman Deck: Ringman is a character in Confidence Man.
5) Black Guinea Deck: the Black Guinea is another character.
6) Black Rapids Deck: a reference to "Black Rapids Coal Company", which appears in Confidence Man.
It appears that TPP was not the first time Handler made use of The Confidence Man for ideas. Are there others?

I haven't noticed any others, but I just wanted to say that I'm both impressed with you for researching that, and interested to know just how many Melville references are in the books. Handler must be a big fan (if TGG wasn't clear enough about that).

Excellent RockSunner. Should have guessed there was something about those names...

In the research done by Ms. Rocksunner proved that The Prospero is really in the noble side of the schism.
So in TPP, where are The Confidence man things?

TPP is similar to The Confidence Man because, and I paraphrase a Handler interview, "You can hardly tell the characters apart, let alone figure out what they're doing". Those connections involving the Prospero are quite interesting.
